Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies (Colgate University)

The Russian and Eurasian Studies Program at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in Russian, Eastern European, and Eurasian Studies beginning fall semester 2024, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year, pending institutional need and the evaluation of teaching effectiveness. We are looking for a dynamic interdisciplinarian whose courses will apply approaches from the social sciences and/or history to the people, places, and phenomena of the region. Language competence in one of the languages of the region is required. The ability to teach Russian language if needed for the program is a plus. The successful candidate may be expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The course load is five undergraduate courses per year. Candidates must have a PhD in hand by July 2024.

STARTALK Instructor (Short-Term Contract)

The University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) seeks to hire an individual to offer Russian language instruction remotely to 5-10 high school students at the intermediate-low level from March 2nd through April 27th, 2024. 

The STARTALK Instructor works closely with STARTALK Program Director, Dr. Olga Klimova, to follow an already developed curriculum aligned with STARTALK requirements and the program theme, “That Diverse Russian Speaking World!”Responsibilities will include:

*Hold online classes, learning activities, and formative assessments.

*Adhere to the pedagogical framework appropriate for the K-12 educational setting and consult with the Program Director regarding student needs.

*Participate in faculty professional development training and any necessary program staff meetings.

The duration of the fellowship is two years with a teaching load of one course per semester. We welcome applications from early career scholars specializing in the cultures of Central and Eastern Europe, including specialists in media, literature, and the arts. The focus for this inaugural instance of the award will be on South Slavic and Balkan cultures. Eligible candidates will have received their Ph.D. degree within 7 years of the position’s start date.
