The School of Modern Languages at the University of Bristol (UK) seeks to appoint a fixed-term 0.8 FTE Lecturer in Russian (Grade J Level B1, or Grade K Level C1, Pathway 1) from 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2026. The successful candidate will bring research expertise in Russian Studies, preferably in twentieth or twenty-first-century Russian history. They will be able to offer research-led teaching in their area of Russian Studies and to contribute to administration within the Department. They will possess a PhD in Russian Studies or a cognate field by the time of the appointment. The candidate will be fluent in the Russian language.
This role is to provide cover for a member of staff who is on secondment until summer 2026 and will not be renewable beyond then.
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to our teaching in our undergraduate Russian programme. They will teach existing modules (called ‘units’ at Bristol) on Russian culture and history, and develop their own new research-led units based on their scholarly expertise. They may also be expected to contribute to teaching Russian-English translation. They may also contribute to schoolwide units within the School of Modern Languages, which explore culture and history from a comparative and transnational perspective to our MA programmes in Comparative Literature and Cultures and/or Translation, and to postgraduate research supervision.
