The School of Modern Languages at the University of Bristol (UK) seeks to appoint a fixed-term 0.8 FTE Lecturer in Russian (Grade J Level B1, or Grade K Level C1, Pathway 1) from 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2026. The successful candidate will bring research expertise in Russian Studies, preferably in twentieth or twenty-first-century Russian history. They will be able to offer research-led teaching in their area of Russian Studies and to contribute to administration within the Department. They will possess a PhD in Russian Studies or a cognate field by the time of the appointment. The candidate will be fluent in the Russian language.

This role is to provide cover for a member of staff who is on secondment until summer 2026 and will not be renewable beyond then.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute fully to our teaching in our undergraduate Russian programme. They will teach existing modules (called ‘units’ at Bristol) on Russian culture and history, and develop their own new research-led units based on their scholarly expertise. They may also be expected to contribute to teaching Russian-English translation. They may also contribute to schoolwide units within the School of Modern Languages, which explore culture and history from a comparative and transnational perspective to our MA programmes in Comparative Literature and Cultures and/or Translation, and to postgraduate research supervision.

The University of Colorado is accepting applications for a Teaching Professor in Russian Language and Russian, East European and Eurasian Culture. This is a three-academic-year, full-time (100%), non-tenure track position, with the possibility of renewal. The position begins fall 2023. Teaching responsibilities include all levels of Russian language as well as courses in Russian, East European, and/or Eurasian culture in English and Russian (current need is 5-6 courses in Russian language and 0-1 course in Russian, East European and/or Eurasian culture per year). Teaching load is three courses per semester. Salary $54,000 – $56,000; professional development and relocation funds may be available to the final candidate. Required qualifications: Native or near-native proficiency in Russian and English; MA degree or equivalent in Russian, East European and/or Eurasian Studies, Russian Linguistics, or a closely related field; at least 1 year college-level language teaching experience (experience teaching can be gained during graduate studies); familiarity with current language pedagogy and the ACTFL guidelines. The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Yale University invites applications for a Lector/Senior Lector I in Russian language.  The appointment will begin on July 1, 2023, with the teaching beginning at the start of the fall semester 2023.  This is a 3-year full-time appointment with renewal contingent on excellent performance and sufficient enrollments.  Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications.  If the initial appointment is at the rank of Lector, a promotion review for Senior Lector I must take place in the fifth year or earlier.  Senior lectors at Yale are expected to participate in teaching-related professional activities (e.g., workshops, seminars, training activities, conferences) and have no limits on reappointment, provided the performance is successful and there is ongoing curricular need. The successful hire may be considered for the position of the Language Coordinator.

Primary duties include teaching 6 courses per academic year, which can be realized through teaching 5 term courses in the language sequence and providing 1 course equivalent of administrative, pedagogical, or other service in support of the academic priorities of the University. About The Role:

To continue our progression and add to the School’s standing we are excited to be recruiting for the position of Director of the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) which represents an exciting opportunity to further the school’s vision as SSEES starts this new chapter in its unique history.

The position performs the role of a Head of Department at UCL. Currently the Director reports to the Vice-Provost (Faculties); it is proposed that from September 2023, the Director will report to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In addition, the Director (in the capacity of Head of Department) is responsible to the Council of UCL, via the President and Provost, for the organisation and general conduct of the School.

The role’s focus will be to determine and implement the School’s strategic operating plan and contribute to the delivery of strategic objectives of the School, Faculty and UCL. CESSI is now accepting language instructor applications for summer 2023! The deadline to apply is January 9, 2023. The Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (CESSI) is an eight-week intensive language institute that offers courses in Kazakh, Tajik, Uyghur, and Uzbek languages annually from mid-June through mid-August. Courses in Azerbaijani or Kyrgyz may be added in summer 2023 if there is sufficient student interest. The 2023 CESSI program will be held from June 19 through August 11 and will be preceded by a staff orientation week from June 12 – 16.
