The Middlebury College Kathryn Wasserman Davis School of Russian invites applications for the position of Instructor of Phonetics for the summer session 2022. The dates are June 24 through August 19, 2022. All instruction will take place in person on the Middlebury (VT) campus. Responsibilities will include conducting small-group Phonetics lessons for students of all proficiency levels and hosting individual office hours for students seeking additional help with Russian pronunciation.

The Department of German and Russian at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer in Russian language, literature, and culture with a secondary appointment in either German, Gender Studies, Global Studies, Linguistics or Film Studies to begin in late August of 2022. This position is for Academic Year 2022-23, with the possibility of renewal. 

The position is a full-time position, with a four course per semester load. It will include in-person instruction, but could also require hybrid or remote assignments. A strong commitment to teaching all levels of Russian language, literature, and culture, and evidence of success as a teacher at the college level are essential. The successful candidate should have an interest in content-based, applied language approaches. Native or near-native fluency in Russian and English expected. Ph.D. preferred, advanced ABD considered. Research specialization is open in any area of post-1900 Russian-language literature and culture including associated fields such as Global Studies, Gender, Sexuality and Queer Studies, and Art History.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Languages and Cultures is seeking a part-time Lecturer to teach Beginning and Advanced Polish in alternate years, and, depending on available funding, an additional “content” course on Polish or East/Central European literature and culture, starting in AY 22-23, which begins July 1st, 2022. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated knowledge of Polish language sufficient to teach all levels of the language as well as a familiarity with contemporary instructional technologies. Fluency in Polish and English is required as is knowledge of Polish culture and preferably one or more East/Central European cultures. The candidate must hold an M.A. degree or higher in a related field.

The Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies and the Department of Media, Journalism, and Film (MJF): A joint Teaching Fellow/Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian, Eastern European or Central Asian media studies, journalism, or film. Teaching responsibilities include core classes for the MJF major as well as upper-level courses in specialty. The teaching fellow will also be expected to participate in events and event planning for the Havighurst Center. The position is renewable for up to four years, contingent on performance and funding. 

Required: Ph.D. in media studies, film studies, journalism, sociology, communication, political science, or other closely relevant field by date of appointment (August, 2022). Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

The Slavic, East European, and Near Eastern Summer Language Institute (SLI) at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures seeks an instructor of Bulgarian for the summer of 2022. 

Instructors will teach a 6-week intensive course during SLI’s summer session, which runs from June 6-July 15. Classes meet five days a week from 9 am-2:50 pm. In addition to classroom teaching, instructors are expected to help plan cultural programming for their language program and attend events for the whole institute, such as film and lecture series, workshops, and picnics. SLI expects that our programs will be conducted in an in-person format on the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh, though sections may be converted to the online, synchronous format via Zoom if warranted by health conditions or strong student interest in remote attendance.  

Applicants must have a master’s degree in the language they will teach or related field and experience teaching in a college or university setting using the communicative approach or other proficiency-based methods.

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Polish Language, Literature and Culture beginning July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter, and ending on June 30, 2025.
 

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Polish Culture or a related field by the time of appointment. The candidate must show excellence in teaching the Polish language, literature and culture at a North American university. Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree-granting program at the undergraduate program level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellence in pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching‐related scholarly activities. Excellent (native or near-native) knowledge of Polish and English is required, as well as knowledge of current teaching methodologies, culture-based instruction, and use of technology.

The Amherst College Department of Russian invites applications for a full-time two-year visiting appointment at the rank of visiting assistant professor, which will begin on July 1, 2022. We are looking for a broadly-trained, theoretically-engaged scholar of Russian literature and culture committed to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal-arts context. Teaching responsibilities include two courses per semester, including all levels of Russian language and various aspects of Russia’s cultural legacy, as well as advising senior theses, as necessary.
