The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for a non-tenure-track Senior Lecturer in Russian starting Fall 2021. This is a full-time position with a three-year renewable contract. Beginning Fall 2021, Senior Lecturers at UTSA will be redesignated as Associate Professors of Instruction.

Responsibilities:

Teaching a variety of Russian language, literature, and culture courses in the Modern Language Studies B.A. program.  Leadership in development of the Russian curriculum.  Application of the latest foreign language methods and technologies to language teaching.

Acad. Job: Russian Language Instructor Pool (University of Pittsburgh)

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) at the University of Pittsburgh invites applicants to a pool of qualified temporary faculty to teach intensive online Russian language courses at multiple levels (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th Year Russian, as needed) in Summer 2021. These courses may be offered through Pitt’s federally funded Project GO program, which provides critical language training for undergraduate ROTC students. The number and course level(s) of available positions will be determined during the Spring 2021 semester. Each faculty member will teach an eight-week course from June 14 to August 6, 2021, consisting of approximately five online contact hours with students each weekday (25 hours per week), for a total of 200 contact hours. All duties of these positions will be carried out remotely.

The assistant editor, employed by SEELC at OSU, where the journal has been housed after July 1, 2017, will be responsible for the daily operations and smooth functioning of the journal with the following duties: receive manuscripts and present them to the editor, maintain an accurate schedule of the review process and email correspondence, copy edit and proofread scholarly submissions, prepare manuscripts for print, communicate via social media, and operate an interactive website.

Acad Job: Lecturer in 19th Century Russian Literature and Culture

The Slavonic Section in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in 19th-century Russian literature and Culture from 1 September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed-term of 5 years.

The successful candidate will normally hold a PhD in Slavonic Studies and will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research commensurate with the international reputation of the Slavonic Studies Section in the University of Cambridge. Appointees will further be expected to:

  • engage in high-level research,
  • seek opportunities to win external funding for that research,
  • publish in their specialist field,
  • teach and examine undergraduates in particular in the area of nineteenth-century literature, thought, and culture,
  • supervise and examine MPhil and PhD postgraduate work in particular in the area of nineteenth-century literature, thought, and culture.

Job: Program Assistant for Project GO Russian language summer program (University of Pittsburgh)

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Program Assistant to work at the University of Tartu’s Narva College in Narva, Estonia on Pitt’s Project Global Officer (Project GO) Russian Language Program from June 5 – August 8, 2021. Sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) at the U.S. Department of Defense, Project GO is a collaborative initiative that promotes critical language education, study abroad, and intercultural dialogue opportunities for Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students. The Pitt Project GO Narva Program offers full scholarships for students enrolled at any accredited college or university in the US for 8 weeks of intensive summer language study in Russian from 2nd through 4th-year level. Students acquire the equivalent of one academic year’s worth of language training, in addition to opportunities to build their inter-cultural competence and travel in the Baltics.

Language Teaching and Learning Research Grants (University of Pittsburgh)

The Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REEES) at the University of Pittsburgh will award up to two Language Teaching and Learning Research (LTLR) grants for scholars to conduct research projects on-site or remotely at Pitt’s Slavic, East European, and Near Eastern Summer Language Institute (SLI) in June–July 2021. Funded projects must focus on the teaching and learning of one or more of the following priority languages: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Polish, Russian, Turkish, and Ukrainian. Other languages that are taught at the SLI may be included in a project proposal in addition to these priority languages; see sli.pitt.edu for the complete list of language courses offered.

Applicants may propose to be in residence in Pittsburgh for all or a portion of the two-month duration of the SLI, according to the needs of their projects. However, please note that applicants should be prepared to conduct their projects entirely remotely in the event that pandemic conditions prevent the 2021 SLI from offering in-person instruction, and/or if University of Pittsburgh restrictions on non-essential travel prohibit the use of grant funds to cover travel expenses in Summer 2021.

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center and the Slavic Reference Service at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are pleased to announce a Call for Applications to its Spring 2021 Virtual Open Research Laboratory (VORL) Program. The program will take place January 25 – May 5, 2021. Funded in part by the U.S. Department of State’s Title VIII Program, the VORL Program provides research stipends and long-distance library support for specialists conducting research on all aspects of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies.

These will be one-year non-tenure-track positions (Teaching Assistant Professors) with option to renew, to begin on July 1, 2021. The successful candidates will each carry a full-time, 3/3 teaching load; duties will involve teaching and university service.

Master of Arts (or foreign equivalent) in Slavic languages and literatures or closely related field, required by July 1, 2021. Native or near-native proficiency in Russian and English required.
