Tenure-track position in Russian Studies (Hamilton College)

Deadline: October 8, 2023

Hamilton College’s Department of German, Russian, Italian, and Arabic invites applications for a tenure-track position in Russian Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2024. The Department seeks candidates of native or near-native fluency in Russian whose research interests focus on pre-Soviet literature, arts, or translation. Interdisciplinary subjects and participation in related departments are strongly encouraged. We are particularly interested in candidates who can also teach the literatures and cultures of other Slavic and/or West Eurasian peoples (Ukrainians, Poles, Czechs, etc.) or Georgian, Armenian, Turkic, or Yiddish literatures. The candidate must possess demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching in both Russian and English, including all levels of language. We would expect the new hire to expand program co-curricular outreach (Russian club, films, field trips, etc) and create new courses that would have broad appeal to students. We seek candidates committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse community. Applications should include evidence of commitment to or experience in teaching and working with diverse student populations, either in a cover letter or in a separate statement. The position requires institutional service, including academic advising of undergraduate students after the first year.
