At a time when we face many global challenges, international engagement is more important than ever. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers opportunities for scholars like you to teach, research and carry out professional projects abroad to advance their professional and academic interests, promote mutual understanding, and collaborate with partners abroad. Many countries are actively seeking experts especially with Russian language skills.

The Graduate Student Travel Award Committee of the Early Slavic Studies Association is seeking applications for a $300 grant to assist with the travel expenses of a graduate student who will be presenting a paper in person in the early Slavic field at the National Convention of the ASEEES in Chicago in November 2022. Interested graduate students may find the application here.
Applications are due by Friday, July 15, 2022. Please submit the completed application form with a c.v. by email to the committee chair Dr. Tomasz Grusiecki, tomaszgrusiecki@boisestate.edu, and carbon-copy Dr. Jennifer Spock, Jennifer.Spock@eku.edu, and Dr. Brian Boeck, bboeck@depaul.edu.

The Institute is an independent private institution founded in 1930 to create a community of scholars focused on intellectual inquiry, free from teaching and other university obligations. Scholars from around the world come to the Institute to pursue their research. Candidates of any nationality may apply for a single term or a full academic year. Scholars may apply for a stipend, but those with sabbatical funding, other grants, retirement funding, or other means are also invited to apply for a non-stipendiary membership. Open to all fields of historical research, the School of Historical Studies’ principal interests is the history of western, near eastern and Asian civilizations, with particular emphasis on Greek and Roman civilization, the history of Europe (medieval, early modern, and modern), the Islamic world, East Asian studies, art history, the history of science, and late modern history. Support is available each year for one scholar in music studies. A Ph.D. (or equivalent) and influential publications are required.
Continue reading “Postdoctoral Fellowships: Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies”The Consortium on Forced Migration, Displacement, and Education (CFMDE) announces a call for applications for a Digital Scholar Fellowship. CFMDE is interested in hosting scholars with refugee or displaced backgrounds to participate in a virtual “residency” program during the 2022-23 academic year. Digital Scholars will give a series of guest lectures in Vassar classes and for a wider public (partial fellowship) or co-teach a class with a Vassar faculty partner (full fellowship). This initiative is being piloted in collaboration with the Institute for International Education, which is helping to facilitate connections to scholars. We are also seeking to connect with scholars outside of the IIE network.

The program is designed to deepen research knowledge and increase the study of modern foreign languages, cultural engagement, and area studies not generally included in U.S. curricula.
Program features
Faculty may request funding to support overseas research for a period of no less than three months and no more than 12 months. Funds support the travel expenses to and from the residence of the fellow and the country or countries of research, maintenance allowances based on the salary paid by the fellow’s U.S. home institution, and an allowance for research-related expenses overseas. Projects may focus on one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the United States and its territories).
Continue reading “Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship Program”Overview: The Inman Award competition is designed to recognize outstanding research and writing by students at the undergraduate or graduate levels on topics related to intelligence and national security. There is no prescribed topic, format, or length for papers submitted. It is presumed that most papers will have been prepared to satisfy a course or degree requirement of the author’s academic program. Co-authored and “team project” papers will be accepted.
About: The Bobby R. Inman award recognizes more than six decades of distinguished public service by Bobby R. Inman, Admiral, U.S. Navy (Ret.). Admiral Inman served in multiple leadership positions in the U.S. military, intelligence community, private industry, and at The University of Texas. His previous intelligence posts include Director of Naval Intelligence, Vice-Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Director of the National Security Agency, and Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. He continues to serve as an advisor and mentor to UT students and faculty members, and current government officials.
Eligibility: All undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at an accredited U.S. higher education institution during the 2021-22 academic year are eligible to participate. A student may submit only one paper that has not been published previously.

Innovative Approaches to Dissertation Research in the
Humanities and Interpretive Social Sciences
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellowships, a new program designed to support emerging scholars as they advance bold and innovative research in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. The program is made possible by a grant from the Mellon Foundation.
The Dissertation Innovation Fellowship program will make awards to doctoral students who show promise of leading their fields in important new directions. The fellowships are designed to intervene at the formative stage of dissertation development, before writing is advanced, and provide time and support for emerging scholars’ innovative approaches to dissertation research – practical, trans- or interdisciplinary, collaborative, critical, or methodological. The program seeks to expand the range of research methodologies, formats, and areas of inquiry traditionally considered suitable for the dissertation, with a particular focus on supporting scholars who can build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable academy.
