Description: The Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language documentation and revitalization, and for linguistic fieldwork. The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics, although projects which have immediate applicability to one group and more distant applicability to the other will also be considered. Support for publication is a low priority, although it will be considered. Proposals can originate in any country. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two. Endangerment is a continuum, and the location on the continuum is one factor in our funding decisions.  Eligibility: Language activists and researchers from any country are eligible to apply.

Description: The History of Art program supports scholarly projects that will enhance the appreciation and understanding of European art and architecture. Grants are awarded to projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, museum exhibitions and publications, photographic campaigns, scholarly catalogues and publications, and technical and scientific studies.  Grants are also awarded for activities that permit art historians to share their expertise through international exchanges, professional meetings, conferences, symposia, consultations, the presentation of research, and other professional events.  Kress Foundation can only award grants to American organizations that are registered as non-profits with the Internal Revenue Service. International applicants must identify a U.S. non-profit as the financial agent for their proposal, and provide a copy of that organization’s IRS Determination Letter to confirm its 501(c) 3 status. The Foundation does not pay grants directly to individuals.

Funding Opportunity: Explore the World Travel Scholarship (Hostelling International USA)

Hostelling International USA is still accepting applications for our Explore the World Travel Scholarship.

This is a $2,000 travel scholarship being offered for Austin Area residents, and this year we’re awarding 5 scholarships.

Also, HIU is hosting a World Travel 101 Travel Class at REI Downtown on Tuesday, Feb 28th at 6:30 pm if you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about international travel and more about the scholarship. Here is a link to learn more about what the class will cover and to RSVP. It’s a free class, but requires an RSVP since they do fill up quickly.

Description: A scholarship established in honor of AIA Past President Elizabeth Bartman to assist graduate students or those who have recently completed a master’s degree with the expenses associated with participating in a museum internship either in the United States or abroad. The internship fund is intended to help graduate students, or those who have recently completed a master’s degree, in Archaeology or a related field (e.g., Anthropology, Art History, Classics, History, etc.) meet expenses associated with undertaking a museum internship (minimum duration a summer or semester). Specific projects will vary and might include the following: collection cataloguing, provenance or archival research, exhibition preparation, the writing of labels and/or didactic panels, assisting with websites and presentations in other media, such as audio guides and exhibition videos, and participating more broadly in museum activities, working with conservators, art handlers, designers, and other museum professionals. Description: ACLS invites applications for the seventh competition of the Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows program. This year, the program will place up to 22 recent PhDs from the humanities and humanistic social sciences in two-year term staff positions at partnering organizations in government and the nonprofit sector. Fellows will participate in the substantive work of these organizations and receive professional mentoring. Fellows receive a stipend of $67,500 per year, with individual health insurance and up to $3,000 to be used toward professional development activities over the course of the fellowship term.  This initiative, made possible by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, aims to expand the role of doctoral education in the United States by demonstrating that the capacities developed in the advanced study of the humanities have wide application, both within and beyond the academy. The Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows program allows PhDs to gain valuable, career-building experience in fields such as public policy, development, conservation, arts and culture, and digital media.

Prof. Devel.: The Summer Research Laboratory on Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia (U. Illinois-Urbana Champaign)

Call for Applications! Summer Research Laboratory 2017

The Summer Research Laboratory (SRL) on Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia is open to all scholars with research interests in the Russian, East European and Eurasian region for eight weeks during the summer months from June 12 until August 4. The SRL provides scholars access to the resources of the world renowned Slavic, East European, and Eurasian collection within a flexible time frame where scholars have the opportunity to receive one-on-one research assistance from the librarians of the Slavic Reference Service (SRS).

The deadline for grant funding is March 15 and is fast approaching! REEEC will continue to receive applications for the Summer Research Lab after the grant deadline, but housing and travel funds will not be guaranteed.

For graduate students, the SRL provides an opportunity to conduct research prior to going abroad and extra experience to refine research skills and strategies.  Students will also have the opportunity of seeking guidance from specialized librarians in navigating resources pertaining to and originating from Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia.

The SRS is an extensive service that provides access to a wide range of materials that center on and come from: Russia, the Former Soviet Union, Czech and Slovak Republics, Former Yugoslavia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The International & Area Studies Library, where the Slavic, East European, and Eurasian reference collection is housed, contains work stations for readers, research technologies, a collection of authoritative reference works, and provides unlimited access to one of the largest collections for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies in North America.

Language Training: Summer Study Abroad Programs (Poland)

This is to let you know that the 2017 Summer Study Abroad programs and application forms have posted to the Foundation’s web-site.  All programs and sessions are now open and we invite you to apply!

It’s going to be an exciting summer!  There are 3-, 4-, and 6 week programs at the Jagiellonian University (JU) and 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-week programs at the John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin aka KUL.

Apply either as a paying student or for a KF scholarship.  All paying students who will be 18 years old and will have a high school diploma by the first day of the program will be accepted.

Not all students who apply for a scholarship will receive funding, but we’ll save a seat for you in the program in case you intend to go whether you receive funding or not.

An important note: There is a limited amount of space in Session A which spends 3 weeks in Krakow and 1 week in the resort town of Szczawnica.  To guarantee your space in the program, apply by March 20th! Payment is required when you apply.

We’re accepting applications and payment for all other programs through May 18th.  All students who are eligible are accepted. 

Students who are applying for a KF scholarship must apply by April 17th See details posted under the heading Tomaszkiewicz-Florio Scholarships, Frances E. Wyszynski Scholarship and Wisconsin Study in Poland Scholarship.  Details vary so read carefully! We’re reserving a number of spaces in Session A for any scholarship applicant who applies for Session A so that scholarship applicants need not worry about the March 20th deadline for Session A.  Scholarship decisions will be announced in May.
