The STARTALK Institute at Middlebury is intended for current and prospective teachers of Russian. The principles of second language acquisition and proficiency-based instruction will serve as the foundation for this intensive pedagogy program.

The Institute is a fantastic place for teachers of Russian – novice and experiences alike – to explore the principles of second language acquisition and proficiency-based instruction amidst the blue mountains of Vermont. It includes 10 days of online classes and a residential session on campus, both required.

A Crossroads Eurasia program

Translating Russian text into English and proofreading text translated by others is the main focus of this summer internship in Voronezh. Translation projects could be as complex as fairy tales or as simple as bank statements. Whether you aspire to be a translator or just want to perfect your language and regional knowledge, this internship lets you experience Russia as if you had moved to work there.
Timing: One to three months. Can be combined with other Crossroads Eurasia internships (e.g. teaching or camp)
Russian proficiency: At least 4 semesters of Russian or equivalent (or heritage speaker)
Past experience: None required.

Funding: Davis Fellowships for Middlebury Summer Intensive Language Program (Monterey)

The Middlebury Institute of International Studies is honored to award up to 10 Davis Fellowships for Peace this coming summer! These 10 recipients will receive a full tuition scholarship to Middlebury’s Summer Intensive Language Program at Monterey.

The deadline to submit a completed application is February 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m., pacific time.

Funding: $8,000 Language Fellowships for Summer 2019 Intensive Language Study Abroad Programs (American Councils)

American Councils has Title VIII Language Fellowships available to help students pursue intensive language study in RussiaEurasia, and the Balkans with American Councils this coming summer.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, Title VIII fellowships are available to students enrolled in or intending to enroll in graduate study in a field relevant to U.S. policy regarding Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. American Councils for International Education is offering U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad (GPA) fellowships for advanced overseas Russian and Persian language study. Fulbright-Hays fellowships are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Fellowship awards are made in the fixed amount of $5,000 for select summer programs. Funding: Intern/Scholarship Russia (Russian Folklore Friends)

Scholarships

Scholarship applications are now being accepted for students, teachers and academics to join folklore expeditions to Russia, Siberia and the Russian Altai region.

Expeditions are led by respected Russian scholars with years of experience in the field. Scholarship recipients and other volunteers join in the work of the expedition – conducting interviews, making video and audio recordings, and processing the collected field materials. Research team members live in rural villages, immersed in local customs and language.  Fluency in Russian is helpful, but not required.

The $1500 AFRF scholarship, or the $1000 K12 Teacher scholarships, may be applied to any of the six expeditions scheduled for July, August and October 2019.  For details, please visit

Educational Center “Cosmopolitan”, Novosibirsk, Russia, is accepting applications for summer internship programs in Novosibirsk and in the Altai Mountains area.

Summer Internships at children’s camps run from mid-June until mid-July 2019, in the delightful countryside just outside Novosibirsk and in the beautiful Altai Mountains area. For the Altai Mountains session there is an exciting excursion and tourist program that comprises many exciting tourist activities such as rafting, horseback riding, hiking, camping, excursions.
