The editors of Teaching Russian through STEM invite chapter reviewers/referees. All reviewing for the volume is anonymous/ double-blind. If selected, each reviewer/referee will be formally recognized in the Acknowledgments section of the volume. The volume will be published in the Routledge Russian Language Pedagogy and Research series

BASEES Postgraduate Workshop: Using Archives and Libraries to Research Histories of Eastern Europe and Eurasia

The workshop is scheduled for July 6th, 2023, from 14:00 to 16:00 (BST) and will be conducted online. This event aims to offer valuable insights to both newcomers to archival research and those with prior experience seeking to deepen their knowledge. Our program acknowledges the intricate political situation and provides alternatives to conducting research in specific regions in person. The workshop will cover a range of topics, from the essentials of preparation and effective note-taking techniques to navigating the political landscape and bureaucratic challenges.

“OVERCOMING THE AGGRESSOR. SELF-PERCEPTION AND EXTERNAL PERCEPTION OF AN ACTOR BETWEEN NATIONS”

The project will allow two postdoctoral fellows –one on behalf of our Centre for Advanced Study Sofia, and one from the Central European University Democracy Institute – to join and collaborate together with the broader academic network convened on the subject by the hosting institution – University of Heidelberg. Project is supported by a generous grant from the Daimler an Benz Foundation.

REEES Undergraduate Think Tank

Deadline: May 10

Students in this program have presented their projects at the ASEEES Annual Convention, and we look forward to seeing more projects this year in Philadelphia. Think Tank participants work with a faculty mentor, attend the virtual Summer Research Laboratory at UIUC, and receive a stipend at the end of the program. Their final research projects are digitally published. The program runs May 2023 to February 2024.

The REEES Think Tank is a nationwide micro-credentialing undergraduate research program for BIPOC undergraduates; students from other communities underrepresented in higher education, including first-generation students; and students lacking substantive REEES resources at their home universities. Workshop of Multimedia Methods in Public Scholarship

ASU’s Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian and East European Studies invites applications for its second annual in-person workshop on multi-media methods in public scholarship , which will be held on ASU’s Tempe campus on August 10-12, 2023. Applications are invited from early-career scholars and practitioners (including advanced PhD and master’s students and recent graduates) with an interest in taking knowledge public. The workshop will provide participants with professional and technical support to effectively translate in-depth regional knowledge of Russia, Eurasia and East Europe to engage public and policy audiences.

Undergraduate Research Competition

Deadline: April 3, 2023

Every year, the Russian Studies department at Macalester College organizes a student research competition. This year, the competition will be in a virtual format and is open to undergrads at all U.S. colleges and universities. Cash prizes awarded!

(1) Submit the title of your project and an abstract by Monday, April 3 by following the link at the competition website. Your project should be based on a term paper, digital project, or part of a senior thesis on any topic relevant to Eastern/Central Europe, Russia, or Central Asia written in Spring 2022, Fall 2022, or work-in-progress from Spring 2023. Your abstract should provide an overview of your project, including its thesis and conclusions, and be no more than 300 words.
