Viadrina International Program for Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Researchers (European University Viadrina)

We are glad to announce that the Viadrina International Program – for Graduates (VIP) as a funding program for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers has funds for the year 2022. The program is funded by the European University Viadrina and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The VIP aims to support the international networking of doctoral candidates and their stronger involvement in international research contexts and discourses.

International doctoral candidates may apply for research stays in 2022 at the European University Viadrina to get familiarize with the research environment at the Viadrina. These fellowships allow international doctoral candidates to get in touch with Viadrina professors for research co-operations or potential doctoral opportunities (e.g. joint degrees and cotutelle agreements). International doctoral candidates may apply for the following funding line:

British Centre for Literary Translation and British Council Mentorship: one mentorship for a literary translator currently resident in a country on the OECD list of countries qualifying for Official Development Assistance, or (in the case of refugees or asylum-seekers from ODA-eligible countries) who has been resident in their destination country for 12 months or fewer (mentored by Canan Marasligil). Two runners-up will receive two digital mentoring sessions each (mentored by Ros Schwartz)

Postdoc Residential Fellowships (National Humanities Center)

Deadline October 7, 2021

The Center will begin accepting applications for the 2022–23 academic year on July 1, 2021 with a deadline of October 7, 2021. Fellowship applicants are asked to complete the online application form and to upload the following documents:

1,000-word project proposal
short bibliography (up to 2 pages)
curriculum vitae (up to 4 pages)
one-page tentative outline of the structure of the project (if the project is a book, provide an outline of chapters; otherwise, give an outline of the components of the project and their progress to date)

Applicants will also be asked to provide names and contact information for three references. References will receive an email prompt inviting them to upload a letter of recommendation on behalf of the applicant. All letters are also due by October 7, 2021.

The U.S. Department of State is currently accepting applications for the Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS).

The Virtual Student Federal Service is the largest virtual internship program in the world! This year we will offer 3,000 positions with 52 federal agencies. VSFS offers unique mentoring and exposure to job opportunities within the U.S. government.

Each year, applications are open to U.S. college students during the entire month of July. Go to VSFS to see the 950+ projects available. Then, create an account on USAJOBS.gov, build a resume, and apply to the VSFS vacancy announcement. VSFS does not require any documentation although you may upload transcripts in your USAJOBS profile if you like. The most important part of your VSFS application is your personal statement of interest.

Study Abroad: Program in Poland for MA/PhD Students: Totalitarianism in East-Central Europe 1939–1989 (Pilecki Institute)

The program is aimed at fostering reflection on the regional experience of facing two totalitarian regimes and introducing it into mainstream discussion on the history of the 20th century.

The history of confronting totalitarianism, both as a personal and a collective experience, delivers a universal message in the face of contemporary challenges of radical political evil. Studying the fates of individual people and developing a proper understanding of history is key to facing these challenges now and in the future.

The project is carried out by the Pilecki Institute in partnership with the Valdosta State University.

Our summer internship is offered for two weeks from July 12th until July 27th at the children’s camp in the picturesque Altai Mountain region. The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State University invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Slavic Languages, Literatures and Cultures beginning August 9, 2021, with the possibility of renewal the following year.
The postdoctoral fellow is responsible for teaching courses that contribute to the Russian and Slavic Program’s curriculum and maintaining an active research program. The teaching load will be 2 courses per semester. Candidates should demonstrate ability to teach a variety of courses in the undergraduate curriculum (such as Russian Grammar and Conversation, Russian Culture and Civilization, Slavic Culture and Civilization, Soviet Russian Cinema, Russian Fairy Tales).

Mentoring Project Based Language Learning Teachers Program (University of Hawai’i)

Are you a new or developing Project-Based Language Learning (PBLL) practitioner looking for support and guidance as you plan and incorporate PBLL in your classes? Then consider joining our Mentoring PBLL Teachers Program as a mentee.

The Mentoring PBLL Teachers program leverages the experience and expertise of a skilled cadre of veteran PBLL practitioners as resources supporting the professional learning of the rising generation of new PBLL practitioners. The mentors will be world language teachers who have completed an NFLRC PBLL Summer Institute, professional development offered by the Buck Institute for Education / PBLWorks, or other extended professional learning, and have implemented PBLL in their classes. The mentees are world language teachers who are interested in learning about PBLL and how to implement PBLL in their classrooms. One mentor will be paired with one mentee through a semester to provide support and consultation about PBLL. Mentors will also share their personal experiences and knowledge in adopting PBLL. Mentors and mentees will use open educational resources (OERs) on PBLL developed by NFLRC as supporting materials. The mentoring will be conducted virtually via email, phone, or videoconferences with at least 5 meetings.
