Fellowship Details

  • Maximum award: $60,000
  • Tenure: six to twelve months devoted to full-time research and/or writing, to be initiated between July 1, 2026 and July 1, 2027, and to be completed by December 31, 2027. Six months of the fellowship tenure must be consecutive, but any remainder of the fellow’s award term can be taken separately at a later date within the eligible award window. (See FAQ for more information.)
  • The fellowship is open to scholars at all postdoctoral career stages, working on or off the tenure track, who have earned a PhD in the humanities or interpretive social sciences by the application deadline. For established scholars without a PhD, please see the FAQ for further information about eligibility for this program.
  • ACLS will begin accepting applications in July 2025. Completed applications must be submitted through the ACLS online fellowship and grant administration system (ofa.acls.org) no later than 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time, September 25, 2025.

This program is open to recent PhD recipients and doctoral candidates in the social sciences.

The Academy Scholars Program of The Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies identifies and supports outstanding scholars at the start of their academic careers whose work combines excellence in a social science discipline with a command of the language and knowledge or expertise of countries or regions outside of the United States or Canada. Their scholarship should span traditional disciplinary divisions and elucidate comparative, transnational, or domestic issues, past or present.

2025 Caucasus Research Forum: Caucasus and the World

For centuries, the Caucasus region has been the center of rich cultural diversity and exchange. These cultural interactions have influenced the peoples of the Caucasus, and in turn, inspired generations of writers, artists, musicians, and travelers. Concurrently, the diaspora communities from this region have taken with them the many representations, oral histories, and memory of the Caucasus to the broader global culture. The theme for the 2025 Caucasus Research Forum is Caucasus and the World. 

Sub-themes of the forum include

  • Travel Writing
  • Caucasus Region in World Literature
  • Diaspora Communities
  • Displacement and Migration
  • Archives and Special Collections

These forums are intended to provide a supportive and informal environment for researchers, information professionals, and students to discuss future, ongoing, or completed scholarly projects.  This event will take place on April 23–24, 2025 on Zoom. Participation is open to all.

Hellenic Research Fellowship Program 2025-2026

Thanks to generous ongoing funding, the university library is pleased to offer the continuation of the Hellenic Research Fellowship Program (HRFP) for a 13th year. The HRFP, the only residential fellowship program west of the Mississippi in Hellenic studies, provides opportunities for visiting scholars and writers-in-residence to spend time in Sacramento, CA, conducting research and crafting their creative works using the resources of the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection. The HRFP provides a limited number of fellowships in the form of reimbursement to help offset transportation and living expenses incurred in connection with the awards. The fellowship application deadline is April 11, 2025. No late applications will be considered. See below for full program information and application instructions.

Online Film Screening and Discussion: Named Voices

Event Date: March 26, 2025, 1:00–3:00 PM EST

This compelling documentary theater play, Named Voices, examines the Nazi genocide of Roma in Ukraine during the 1940s and the ongoing experiences of Roma communities under Russia’s current war against Ukraine. The film interweaves stories of Roma people affected by WWII, connecting their past and present struggles. Produced by the Agency for the Advocacy of Roma Culture ARCA in collaboration with the Inclusive Theatre Association ART-PLAYBACK, the film draws upon ARCA’s archives and interviews with Roma provided by the Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies. Following the screening, join Nataliia Tomenko, Roma activist and cultural heritage expert, and Lesia Pagulich, Ukrainian queer studies scholar, for a conversation on how histories of violence shape new understandings of care, solidarity, and healing. The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles (78 min).
