The Turkmenistan Higher Education (THE) Prep4Success and GRE programs provide promising Turkmenistan citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully enter U.S. colleges and universities, independently, while increasing their chances of receiving financial aid. During an intensive 5-month P4S or GRE program based in Ashgabat, or 12-month regional Undergraduate Cohort Advising program, participants will focus on developing reading and essay writing skills, building critical thinking skills, and learning effective ways for taking the SAT and TOEFL tests, or GRE test.

The Program Director position will be responsible for the design and implementation of the programs, including participant and staff recruitment, training, and mentoring.

Program Coordinator, National Security Language Initiative for Youth (American Councils)

NSLI-Y is a critical component of a multi-agency federal initiative to increase U.S. citizens’ capacity to engage foreign governments and peoples through the critical language of Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, and Turkish. NSLI-Y is a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and American Councils acts as the prime grantee collaborating with other partner organizations. NSLI-Y provides merit-based scholarships for eligible U.S. high schools students to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs. Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Russian Lit and Culture (UC Davis)

The Department of German & Russian at the University of California-Davis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, in the area of nineteenth-century Russian literature and culture, beginning July 1, 2023. Research should focus on prerevolutionary Russian literature and culture of the long nineteenth century, with a concentration in one or more of the following areas: literature, theater/drama, visual culture, or music. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of undergraduate courses, including single-author courses (Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov) taught in translation and advanced language and literature classes taught in Russian. A secondary specialization in another field, such as Ukrainian or other Slavic literature; comparative race and empire studies; or visual culture, is a plus. The successful applicant will teach four courses each year, including advanced Russian-language classes, and be expected to participate actively in the running of a small program.

Russian Language & Area Studies Program in Armenia (American Councils)

American Councils for International Education is pleased to announce that its Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP) will be offered for semester as well as summer study in Yerevan, Armenia beginning in spring 2023. For more than 40 years, American Councils programs have provided U.S. students of Russian unique opportunities to engage with the Russian speaking world through intensive study and cultural immersion designed to produce measurable gains in language proficiency and cultural understanding.  

Hosted by the Faculty of Russian Philology at Yerevan State University, the program provides 20 hours per week of intensive in-class Russian language instruction, housing with Russian speaking host families, weekly meetings and activities with conversation partners, weekly cultural activities, extended group travel to explore Armenia, and a rich array of opportunities to engage with the host country culture through university extracurricular activities, internships, and community service. A fully trained U.S. Resident Director provides ongoing logistical support and assistance, including 24-hour emergency aid, to participants throughout the program. The American Councils office in Yerevan is also available to assist and support program participants throughout their time in-country. The program is open to both graduate and undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of Russian language study.
