Job: Ukraine Researcher, Remote (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project)

Position overview:

We are seeking an experienced researcher with extensive knowledge of tracking down public records in Ukraine to support our partners and projects in the region. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of doing investigative research and are open to candidates coming from journalism, law, finance or a related field. This is a remote position, but regular calls require you to be in a timezone between UTC and UTC-4, ideally in Ukraine.

Our Research and Data Team is the brainpower behind OCCRP ID, a service that helps investigative journalists in the OCCRP network conduct research quickly and effectively. You will join a team of research and data experts who use a combination of commercial and self-compiled databases, coding skills, as well as publicly available open sources, to help journalists track down people, companies, and assets anywhere in the world and build out data-heavy investigations.

Call for Applications: Workshop in Ukrainian Studies in New York City (For PhD candidates and Post-Doctoral Scholars)

The Shevchenko Scientific Society in the United States, in partnership with the American Association for Ukrainian Studies and Razom for Ukraine, is pleased to announce a call for applications from early-career scholars. PhD candidates studying at US universities and post-doctoral fellows who received their PhD degrees within the past three years are invited to apply for participation in an interdisciplinary workshop in Ukrainian Studies. Applicants engaged in a wide range of approaches and subfields are welcome to apply. Topics include, but are not limited to, civil society, culture, economic development, gender, historical memory, humanitarian aid, international relations, migration, and war. The in-person workshop will be held in New York City on October 31 – November 1, 2025, which will provide participants with an opportunity to attend some events at the Ukrainian Cultural Festival.

Since 1933 the APS has awarded small grants to scholars in order to support the cost of research leading to publication in all areas of knowledge. In 2024–2025 the Franklin Research Grants program awarded nearly $675,000 to more than 100 scholars, and the Society expects to make a similar number of awards in this year’s competition.

Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship

The Radcliffe Fellowship Program supports 50 scholars, artists, and public intellectuals who have demonstrated records of achievement in their respective fields and show great promise for future contributions.

Throughout the year, fellows convene regularly to share their work in progress, supporting one another in various intellectual groups and building connections through social events. They benefit from access to Harvard’s libraries and archives, to professional development opportunities, and to Harvard college students through participating in the Radcliffe Research Partnership Program. In this program, students intellectually engage with fellows and their projects by researching sources, reviewing book chapters, discussing new approaches to projects, and more.

American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship

Fellowship Details

Maximum award: $60,000
Tenure: six to twelve months devoted to full-time research and/or writing, to be initiated between July 1, 2026 and July 1, 2027, and to be completed by December 31, 2027. Six months of the fellowship tenure must be consecutive, but any remainder of the fellow’s award term can be taken separately at a later date within the eligible award window. The fellowship is open to scholars at all postdoctoral career stages, working on or off the tenure track, who have earned a PhD in the humanities or interpretive social sciences by the application deadline. For established scholars without a PhD, please see the FAQ for further information about eligibility for this program.
ACLS will begin accepting applications in July 2025. Completed applications must be submitted through the ACLS online fellowship and grant administration system (ofa.acls.org) no later than 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time, September 25, 2025.

Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies

The Academy Scholars Program of The Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies identifies and supports outstanding scholars at the start of their academic careers whose work combines excellence in a social science discipline with a command of the language and knowledge or expertise of countries or regions outside of the United States or Canada. Their scholarship should span traditional disciplinary divisions and elucidate comparative, transnational, or domestic issues, past or present.

Funding: Dynamic Language Infrastructure-Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants

This program supports doctoral research focusing on building dynamic language infrastructure (DLI). Developing language infrastructure includes the documentation and preservation of languages in ways that articulate or advance linguistic theory, as well as the use of digitization techniques and novel computational methods that support and advance the study of language. Special emphasis is given to languages that are endangered, i.e., understudied and at risk of falling out of use. The program supports the development of the next generation of researchers that contribute to language data management and archiving and to the analysis of these archives to advance language infrastructure. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities relevant to the digital recording, documenting and archiving of endangered languages, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples and databases. Funding in this solicitation is in the form of doctoral dissertation research improvement grants (DDRIs) for up to 24 months and this solicitation addresses the preparation and evaluation of proposals for DDRI proposals.

International Fellowships (American Association of University Women)

AAUW’s International Fellowships promotes education for women by investing in international applicants who will be pursuing postgraduate studies or research in the U.S., with the intention of applying their expertise, professional skills, and leadership in the context of their home countries. In addition, up to 5 awards are available to Graduate Women International (see the list of GWI affiliates) members for study in any country other than their own. International Fellowships are specifically designed for women who are non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents, with a track record of academic excellence and empowering other women and girls. The Program has been supporting international women pursuing full-time postgraduate studies in the United States since 1917.

Award Details

International Fellowships carry a stipend of $20,000 for a master’s degree and $25,000 for a doctorate degree. Stipends are payable to fellows only and are disbursed in two equal payments at the beginning and the midpoint of the fellowship term.

Bowdoin College’s Department of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian languages, literature and culture at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2026. The position subfield is open. The teaching load is two courses per semester. A PhD is expected by the date of the appointment.

We encourage applicants who exhibit a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching at all levels of Russian language and the cultures of the broader region, as well as a promise of long-term successful research. Native or Near-native fluency in Russian is required, in addition to an excellent command of English for courses taught as part of the broader curriculum. While the research subfield and regional specialization are open, we value interdisciplinarity and especially welcome applications from candidates whose teaching and research foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the region’s diverse societies and cultures.
