New York University’s Center for the United States and the Cold War announces the Agnese N. Haury fellowships and travel grants for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Center for the United States and the Cold War at NYU’s Tamiment Library supports research on the Cold War, especially on the ways in which this ideological and geopolitical conflict with the Soviet Union affected American politics, culture, and society. We will be offering a dissertation fellowship and several travel grants to scholars who are interested in using Tamiment’s holdings to further their research.

The dissertation fellowship program honors the late Agnese Nelms Haury, whose insightful generosity created and sustains the Center for the United States and the Cold War, whose purposes she believed in passionately. Applicants for the dissertation fellowship must have passed their comprehensive examinations and expect to complete their dissertations within two years of the start of the 2020-2021 academic year. The dissertation fellow/s will receive either a stipend of $16,000 for one semester or $32,000 for a nine-month academic year.

Society for the Preservation of American Modernists

Through an annual series of Publication Grants, SPAM supports the authorship of articles or books by independent scholars, writers, students and professionals in the following subject areas: the artistic contributions of the American modernists, and the history of public and private support for the arts in the United States. Either of these areas may be explored in a successful application.

Publication Grants are intended to encourage non-academics to do original research, and to encourage academics to make their research accessible to the public. SPAM will include the work—published or unpublished—in all SPAM research archives and databases. While applications are welcome from all individuals, applicants with a clear and realistic publication plan will be favored by the selection committee.

Opportunity Highlights

• Awardees will receive a stipend of $7500 distributed over the duration of the grant period in addition to a $2000 travel grant. Texas Global will award up to eight grants to faculty directors for this competition cycle.
• Grant Period: June 1, 2020 – August 31, 2022, spanning student mobility for Academic Year 20/21 and 21/22
• Eligibility: Tenure and non-tenure track faculty, lecturers, and professors of the practice, with a minimum of three years of experience at UT Austin. Faculty need to submit letters of support from their department chair and dean to direct the program for a minimum of two consecutive years.
• Faculty must have an existing international partner; demonstrate their ability to recruit a minimum of 5 students per year; commit to developing a high impact learning model; collaborate with and be responsive to all policies set forth by Texas Global; and direct the program for a minimum of two years, with evidence that the model is sustainable past year three.

• Grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded for Development and up to $5,500 for Implementation ($500 of the Implementation Grant will be awarded to the international collaborator). Allowable costs include faculty travel, technology (webcams, audio equipment, software), graduate assistant support, and educational resources.
• Grant Period: Development Grant: May 15, 2020 – September 30, 2020; Implementation Grant: May 15, 2020 — September 30, 2022.
• Eligibility: Tenure and non-tenure track faculty, lecturers and professors of the practice, with a minimum of two years of teaching experience at UT Austin at the time of application, are eligible to apply. Collaboration between faculty and graduate students is allowable if the eligible faculty member is the principal applicant and the instructor of record.
