Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian Culture (Ohio State University)

The Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures at The Ohio State University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian culture, beginning August 2020. While area of specialization is open, they are seeking a dynamic scholar of Russian culture who can contribute to department research and teaching strengths in any of the following areas: film (Russian and East European), popular culture, gender, literature, migration studies, and translation. Qualified applicants must hold a PhD in Russian/Slavic languages and cultures or related discipline prior to the appointment start date. Fluency in Russian and English is required. North American classroom teaching experience and proficiency in another Slavic language is desired. The successful candidate will teach four courses per year, both in English and in Russian, will work to establish a study abroad program in a Slavic or East European country, and will contribute to the life of the department. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility for renewal up to three years, pending need and availability of funds.

The Department of Russian Language and Literature at Dartmouth College invites applications for a full-time visiting faculty position. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year beginning September 1, 2020, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian.

The successful candidate will teach a total of five courses, including Russian language courses at both the introductory and intermediate level and several courses in Russian literature and culture in translation, which will include at least one course on a topic of the candidate’s own choice. The candidate will also participate in and contribute to a range of the Russian department related activities outside the classroom.

Among the qualifications required for appointment are a Ph.D. degree in hand or expected by summer 2020, native or near-native Russian and English, and evidence of successful teaching experience in both language and literature.

New York University’s Center for the United States and the Cold War announces the Agnese N. Haury fellowships and travel grants for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Center for the United States and the Cold War at NYU’s Tamiment Library supports research on the Cold War, especially on the ways in which this ideological and geopolitical conflict with the Soviet Union affected American politics, culture, and society. We will be offering a dissertation fellowship and several travel grants to scholars who are interested in using Tamiment’s holdings to further their research.

The dissertation fellowship program honors the late Agnese Nelms Haury, whose insightful generosity created and sustains the Center for the United States and the Cold War, whose purposes she believed in passionately. Applicants for the dissertation fellowship must have passed their comprehensive examinations and expect to complete their dissertations within two years of the start of the 2020-2021 academic year. The dissertation fellow/s will receive either a stipend of $16,000 for one semester or $32,000 for a nine-month academic year.

Through an annual series of Publication Grants, SPAM supports the authorship of articles or books by independent scholars, writers, students and professionals in the following subject areas: the artistic contributions of the American modernists, and the history of public and private support for the arts in the United States. Either of these areas may be explored in a successful application.

Publication Grants are intended to encourage non-academics to do original research, and to encourage academics to make their research accessible to the public. SPAM will include the work—published or unpublished—in all SPAM research archives and databases. While applications are welcome from all individuals, applicants with a clear and realistic publication plan will be favored by the selection committee.
