The Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies at The Ohio State University is currently accepting applications for its MA program.

The Master of Arts in Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies at Ohio State is an interdisciplinary, terminal degree that prepares students for careers in the government, non-profit, or public sector, or to pursue a PhD. For those interested in a career in the public, military, or private sector, the CSEEES MA provides them with the language skills and regional knowledge to understand and analyze the events, culture, history, and politics of a region or country within Eastern Europe/Eurasia. Those wanting to go on to pursue a PhD receive a foundation in the humanities and social sciences while developing a focused approach to the study of the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia and improve their language skills. All students choose a topical and/or regional specialization, allowing students to customize the degree to their interests. To complete the degree, students may choose to either complete an MA exam or defend a thesis.

Acad. Job: Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian (Williams College)

The Department of German and Russian at Williams college seeks to fill a one-year visiting assistant professor position in Russian to begin in July 2027. The teaching load is four courses, or the equivalent, across two semesters: two in the fall and two in the spring. Specialization is open. PhD preferred. Native or near-native proficiency in the language is required. A passion for teaching is a must. Specifically, the successful candidate will have significant language teaching experience, innovative ideas for upper-level courses in Russian, and a desire to work effectively, both inside and outside the classroom, with a student population that is broadly diverse. Our program is founded on close student-faculty interaction and strong mentoring, as well as vibrant scholarship. Application deadline: December 7, 2026. This position is located in the Israel and Judaica Section, Asian and Middle Eastern Division, Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access Directorate, Discovery and Preservation Services. It is a hybrid position that combines major duties from both the acquisitions specialist and the cataloger. There is a foreign language requirement for this position depending on the geographical area for which cataloging or acquisitions functions are being performed.

The incumbent uses a specific foreign language to perform the following duties in areas of Cataloging Services, Acquisitions Services, Analyzes and Organizes Information and Materials, Library Collections Development, Consultation and Liaison Services, and Librarian Training and Mentoring.

This position requires knowledge of Armenian and/or Georgian, and a highly desired knowledge of Russian. Additionally, a Master’s of Library/Information Science (MLIS) or an advanced degree in a related/adjacent field is highly desired.

Work You’ll Do

Kennan Institute Digital Fellowship 2026-2027

The Kennan Institute Digital Fellowship program is meant to promote original scholarship and quality non-fiction writing about Russia and the former Soviet Union. Fellowships will be awarded to ten outstanding figures from academia, journalism, and the expert community. The program will give fellows six months of financial support, integrate them into a network, and assist them in communicating their ideas to the public and to the policy community in Washington, DC. This program will also establish an international cohort, which upon completion of their fellowship will be incorporated into the Kennan’s alumni network. A selection committee will choose awardees for a six-month fellowship, beginning in late October 2026 and concluding in March 2027. Fellows will meet virtually once a month, and in the course of their fellowship they will be required to publish a piece for the general public and policy community, working with Kennan Institute staff to develop and edit ideas. The Digital Fellowship is designed to support a diverse range of research proposals and meet the fellows’ needs during the research process, from making professional connections to providing a platform for sharing findings.

This conference proposes to approach the experience of exile in the twentieth century through the lens of the body. The body is understood here as a point of intersection between the material conditions of existence, the institutional mechanisms that frame migration, and the cultural forms through which exile is lived and represented. This perspective seeks to complement approaches that have primarily examined exile through the lenses of memory, identity, cultural circulation, and intellectual transfer.
