The conference aims to bring together scholars from various disciplines who explore, theorise, and seek to address historical, social, legal, and political aspects of sexuality (of any historical period) within the present day territories of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Sexuality is broadly defined as a range of emotional, physical, and psychological dimensions, characteristics, behaviours, and attractions that relate to a person’s sexual orientation, sexual activity, sexual identity, and sexual desires. Sexuality can involve, but is not limited to, sexual orientation (such as LGBTQ+ and/or asexuality), romantic attraction, and experiences of intimacy and pleasure. In addition, sexuality is inextricably linked to social/cultural norms and values, as well as legal and medical knowledge production.

Job: Russian Instructor (Columbus International High School)

The Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies at The Ohio State University has been pleased to collaborate with the Columbus (North) International High School (CIHS) in offering Russian language instruction since August 2011. Both first and second-year introductory Russian language courses are offered, taught by an instructor with B.A. and M.A. degrees. The instructor will need to attend training alongside Graduate Teaching Associates by the Director of the Language Program at the Ohio State Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures on the most effective language pedagogy and classroom methods in August 2024. The instructor teaches fifty-minute classes five days a week during the regular Columbus School District academic calendar for a total of 35-36 weeks. Students learn elementary Russian language and engage in other activities relating to the use of Russian language such as language lab activities, watching Russian-language films, researching Russia-focused projects, etc. The instructor reports directly to Mr. Douglas Lowery, principal of the school (dlowery@columbus.k12.oh.us), for any issues related to student behavior or performance or other classroom concerns.

The Editorial Board of the Journal of Russian American Studies (JRAS) is planning to publish an anniversary issue dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Russian-American relations focusing on the year 1945. This year, of course, marks the end of World War II / Great Patriotic War. We are inviting scholars to contribute articles to be included in this anniversary issue that will be published in Summer 2025. The specific theme of the article is up to the author, but it needs to focus on Russian-American relations in the year 1945 – (both broadly speaking). The deadline for submitting proposals/abstracts is July 1, 2024. In this part of the process, please submit a proposal or abstract of 100 words that describes your article. For the two upcoming issues (Volume 83 and Volume 84), Southeast Research invites submissions from all areas of the history of Southeast Europe. The submission deadline for Volume 83 is June 30, 2024 , and for Volume 84, November 30, 2024 .

Südost-Forschungen is one of the oldest periodical publications on the history of Southeast Europe. Its first volume appeared in 1936; since then, the journal, which is published as a yearbook, has developed into one of the leading publications for German and international research on the history of Southeast Europe. For the coming year, Südost-Forschungen plans to switch from one yearbook to two issues per year.

Connecting Classrooms Program for Teachers of English in Russia and Teachers of Russian in the US

The University of Maryland’s National Foreign Language Center’s Connecting Classrooms program in partnership with the US Embassy in Russia’s Regional English Language Office (RELO) is a professional learning program for teachers of English in Russia and teachers of Russian in the USA. Through a series of online courses participants will gain foundational knowledge around key concepts as participants view presentations and interpret meaning for their educational settings. Facilitated through PEARLL’s course platform, synchronous learning include recorded and live video presentations, whole-group and small-group activities, chat discussions, and breakout sessions. Asynchronous learning will ask participants to explore resources that support the synchronous content, post reflections, and respond to discussion questions based on their professional goals.

About the Position: Serves as a Russian language teacher for the Undergraduate Russian School (URU) or Undergraduate Chinese Russian School (UCR) at the Presidio of Monterey. The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) offers foreign language instruction in more than two dozen languages on a schedule that extends throughout the year. Courses are taught six hours per day, five days a week, with the exception of federal holidays and training holidays.
