Asynchronous Histories Summer School will be held in Warsaw 22-26 September 2025.

The Asynchronous Histories Summer School aims to explore regions and moments in history marked by the coexistence of asynchronous sociopolitical tendencies and processes. These conditions often reveal paradoxical outcomes when seemingly well-established actors and mechanisms are put into practice. The absence—or inefficiency—of “The Great Synchronizer,” whether imperial order, centralized state apparatus, or the power of capital, has, in various periods and regions, created fertile grounds for blending the old and the new in unequal and unexpected ways.

2025-2026 Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Ukrainian Politics, Culture, and Society at the (University of Toronto)

The Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Ukraine at the Centre for European and Eurasian Studies (CEES), Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto is accepting applications for the Petro Jacyk Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Ukrainian Politics, Culture, and Society for the 2025-2026 academic year. The objective of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship is to support annually one of the most promising junior scholars studying contemporary Ukraine and thereby to advance academic understanding of Ukrainian politics, culture, and society. Resource/CFP: DOXA Independent Russian Media Platform

DOXA Journal is an independent Russian media outlet operating in exile. Initially launched as a student publication, it has grown into one of the largest independent Russian media platforms, covering critical issues such as human rights violations, the war in Ukraine, LGBTQIA+ oppression, and indigenous rights. Through our newsletter we aim to broaden the conversation about Russia by highlighting perspectives that extend beyond Kremlin-centric coverage.

Unlike most independent Russian media, we welcome scholarly, research-driven work.

CFP: Wisconsin Slavic Conference

Deadline: February 17, 2025

Abstracts for 20-minute papers on any aspect of Slavic literatures, cultures (including film, music, and the visual arts), linguistics, and history, as well as on Slavic language and literature pedagogy are invited for the annual Wisconsin Slavic Conference. Comparative topics and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome and encouraged. The conference will be held in-person at the University of Wisconsin–Madison on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5, 2025.

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowships

The International and Foreign Language Education (IFLE) office at the U.S. Department of Education is pleased to announce the opening of the competition for the fiscal year (FY) 2025 Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) fellowships program.

The FRA program funds fellowships through institutions of higher education (IHEs) to faculty members to conduct research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies to improve their skill in languages and their knowledge of the culture of the people of these countries. Fellows conduct research abroad for three to 12 months. Funds support travel expenses to and from the fellow’s residence and the country or countries of research, a maintenance stipend related to the fellow’s academic year salary, and an allowance for research-related expenses, such as books and photocopying, tuition, affiliation fees, local travel, and other incidental expenses. Proposals focusing solely on Western Europe are not eligible.

IFLE expects to make 15 new awards totaling approximately $750,000 under the FY 2025 FRA competition. Applications for the FRA program must be submitted through the G5/G6 system. The application package document provides specific instructions on how to apply for an FRA fellowship. The deadline to apply is March 10, 2025.

ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant Program

Deadline: March 20, 2025

Thanks to the generosity of donors and members, the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies is offering research grants with a stipend of maximum $6,000, for the purposes of conducting doctoral dissertation research in Eastern Europe and Eurasia in any aspect of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies in any discipline. Students may only receive ONE ASEEES Dissertation Research Grant over the course of their graduate studies.

Call for Applications: 6th Annual Yale European and Eurasian Studies Graduate Student Conference

Deadline: February 17, 2025

The European Studies Council (ESC) of the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University invites applications to the 6th annual Yale European and Eurasian Studies Graduate Student Conference

On May 6-7, 2025, a hybrid-format conference is scheduled to take place at Yale University. This conference will bring together graduate students, early-career scholars, and established academics from across disciplines to discuss the most pressing challenges facing Europe, Russia, and Eurasia today. The deadline for applications is February 17, 2025. To propose an individual paper, please submit an online application form.

Political Science, History, Sociology, Anthropology, Film and Media Studies, Economics, Literature, Law, Cultural Studies, and Public Health are all examples of acceptable fields for paper topics. Only open to applications from graduate students and early career scholars.

In the backdrop of Russia’s war against Ukraine, we are especially receptive to initiatives that further the decentralization and decolonization of the study of the former “communist bloc” of the Soviet Union, Central and Eastern Europe, and Eurasia at large. The results of the selection will be communicated by February 21, 2025.

Fieldwork Opportunities in Russian and Kazakh Folklore

Deadlines: May 2, May 6, 2025

Partnership for Russian, East European and Eurasian Folkloreinvites students and established scholars in folklore, cultural anthropology, ethnomusicology and related areas to join our field research teams to document Russian and Kazhak folklore in Kazakhstan. 

The research expeditions are led by Dr. Yelena Minyonok and Dr. Alevtina Tsvetkova, respected folklorists with years of experience in guiding students and collaborating with established scholars. Volunteers pay their own way plus a share of the general expedition expenses.  

Some financial assistance is available.

Want to get your articles published in academic journals? This special CLT Demos & Discussions series will feature panel discussions by the editors of four online refereed journals published or sponsored by the National Foreign Language Resource Center: Language Learning & Technology (LL&T), Reading in a Foreign Language (RFL), Language Documentation & Conservation (LD&C), and Second Language Research & Practice (SLRP).

Panelists will discuss their journals and their submission & review process, while also providing strategies and tips for getting published in refereed journals in general. Bring your questions!

Panel sessions will be hybrid, allowing for in-person participation at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and online participation, and recorded.
