Lecturer of Russian 
The Program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at Smith College invites applications for a 3-year, benefits-eligible position at the rank of Lecturer of Russian to begin July 1, 2020. The position may be renewed dependent on enrollments and funding. Teaching responsibilities include courses in all levels of Russian language. Applicants should have a strong foundation in Russian language and culture pedagogy; candidates with experience in program building and organizing extra- and co-curricular activities are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures or a related field (ABD acceptable), and applicants with MA in Slavic Languages and Literatures or a related field with college teaching experience will be considered. 

Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at Smith is an interdisciplinary program with a growing number of majors. We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated colleague who will take a leading role in our language curriculum, actively contribute to REEES program building, and participate in study abroad initiatives. The successful candidate will also join a vibrant community of Russian and Eurasian Studies in the Five College area.

– MA level courses with focus on South Eastern Europe, in particular the regions where Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian and Slovene are spoken;

– methodological courses on both BA and MA level. 

You actively participate in the development of innovative forms of teaching on BA and MA level.

The George Mason University, Department of Modern and Classical Languages, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teacher-Scholar of Russian Literature and Culture, beginning Fall 2020. Candidates will have an active research and publication agenda focused on one or more of the following areas: Post-Soviet Russian literature, nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, Russian and (Post-) Soviet film, and cultural studies.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in both English translation and in Russian; courses in translation include those on major Russian writers, survey courses of nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, and Russian civilization; courses taught in Russian include Russian poetry and contemporary short fiction. Twelve-month appointment and 2/2 teaching load. Position is renewable for up to three years.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, university-level teaching experience, and native or near-native fluency in Russian. Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to teach a course on the cultural contributions of Russian and Soviet immigrants to the U.S. is a plus.

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Russian to begin August 10, 2020. Virginia Tech has one of the largest undergraduate Russian programs in the country and has been the recipient of funding for Project GO (Global Officer), a Department of Defense initiative, since 2012. As a Research I institution, Virginia Tech strongly values high scholarly productivity as well as excellence in teaching. The standard teaching load is two/two courses per academic year. Responsibilities include teaching Russian at all levels, research and scholarship, extra-curricular programming, promoting study abroad, and university service. The Institute for Slavic Studies of Christian-Abrechts-Universität zu Kiel (Kiel University), Germany, invites applications for a Professorship in Slavic Linguistics with a focus on Historical Linguistics (W2, 100 %, permanent)

The candidate should represent the full scope of Slavic linguistics in research and teaching. Knowledge of Russian and Polish in present-day and in historical perspective is required. At least one other East or West Slavic language is desirable in research and teaching.

Applicants should be willing to work together with other researchers in an interdisciplinary environment. The tasks of the future job holder include participation in the Kiel Center for Eastern European Studies (ZOS) as well as the further development of existing international double degree programs at the Master level (EuPoD and RDT – see www.eupod.de and www.rdt.uni-kiel.de). The Department of Near Eastern Studies invites applications for the position of Leon B. Poullada Postdoctoral Research Associate, or Associate Research Scholar, in Central Asian Studies. The initial appointment will be for one year, September 1, 2020 through August 31, 2021, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding. The selected candidate’s primary responsibility while in
residence at Princeton will be to pursue and publish research on premodern Central Asia, encompassing the history, politics and cultures of the Muslim areas of the Turko-Persianate world, including the area from the Caspian Sea to Western China and Kazakhstan to historical Islamic North India. Pending departmental approval and approval from the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, the researcher will also be expected to teach a one-semester undergraduate course on the history of Central Asia, broadly conceived, and to hold on-campus office hours during the semester. When teaching, the successful candidate will carry a secondary title of
Lecturer. The candidate is expected to participate in departmental and other campus activities; s/he will be integrated fully into the Department of Near Eastern Studies and into the appropriate programs and centers at Princeton University. Ph.D. is required. Preference will be given to applicants who have received their PhD within the past three years.
