Call for Applications: Russian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship at Indiana University-Bloomington

The Russian Studies Workshop (RSW) at Indiana University’s Russian and East European Institute (REEI) and Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship. The fellowship begins August 1, 2019 and is for one year, until July 31, 2020. The fellowship is renewable for up to one additional year. Applicants should be scholars conducting research on Russia while contributing to interdisciplinary and international debates. Special consideration will be given to scholars who have conducted extensive field research and have strong Russian language skills. The fellowship is $50,000/year and includes benefits. This postdoctoral fellowship is provisional and contingent upon RSW’s receipt of a grant.

Grad. Program: Funded Ph.D in Russian and Translation Studies (Exeter)

The University of Exeter is calling for applications for three fully funded PhD studentships in the history of Russian-to-English literary translation. The third studentship offers the opportunity to research an aspect of the history of literary translation from Russian into a third language. Applications from international students (i.e. neither UK nor EU nationality) are welcomed.

These studentships, beginning in September 2019, for 3.5 years are hosted at the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus. They are open to students of any nationality. Each studentship will cover University tuition fees for UK,EU and/or international students with a stipend equivalent to the Research Councils UK national minimum stipend (£14,777 in 2018/19).

Internship: Summer Internships in Russia (Crossroads Eurasia)

For any students who are still looking for a summer program, Crossroads Eurasia still has a few spots open in their internship program! Internships take place in Ryazan or Voronezh for 4 or more weeks depending on placement. Students live with a host family and will work with a local partner.

Funding: Postdoc Research Scholarship (Gerda Henkel Foundation)

The Gerda Henkel Foundation has opened applications for their Postdoctoral Research Scholarship. Basic Monthly scholarship award: 2,300 euros

Criteria: Applications for a “research scholarship for post-doctoral researchers” may only be made if applicants received their PhD within the last ten years. The relevant date is that on the PhD certificate.

The dissertation must have already been published at the time the application is made. The presentation of a publishing contract is not sufficient in this regard. The topic of the proposed research project must clearly differ from the topic of the PhD thesis.

Funding: Billington Fellowship for Russian History/Culture (Wash, DC)

The Kennan Institute seeks applications from scholars who have received their Ph.D. within the past 10 years for the newly established Billington Fellowship to conduct research on Russian history and culture.

The Billington Fellowship offers a monthly stipend of $3,500, research facilities, a research intern, and computer access. Fellows are required to be in residence at the Kennan Institute, Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. for the duration of the grant. Awardees are expected to begin their appointments within six months of accepting the fellowship.
