Deadline for Applications: October 15, 2018
The Department of Russian at Dartmouth College invites applications for a position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Russian beginning in Fall 2019. We are seeking a teacher-scholar with an innovative research agenda and dedication to the undergraduate teaching of Russian language, literature, and culture. While the area of specialization is open, candidates with interdisciplinary and comparative research interests and expertise in post-Soviet and contemporary Russian culture, media or cultural studies, or the non-Russian regions of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe are particularly welcome. In addition to specialized courses, the successful candidate will also teach general survey courses in Russian literature and culture and have an opportunity to lead our summer language program in St. Petersburg. Students at Dartmouth are diverse by many measures, and the College seeks to foster an atmosphere of openness and inclusivity. We particularly seek applicants with an interest in teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
The Russian Department has five and one half tenure line faculty and the Language program coordinator in the rank of Assistant Research Professor and often sponsors post doctoral fellows. Our courses enjoy strong enrollments from a broad constituency of students. Many of our courses are cross-listed with other departments and programs such as Theater, Film studies, Anthropology, and Comparative Literature. Current faculty members participate in a variety of campus research and pedagogical initiatives, such as Digital Humanities and Experiential Learning. A successful applicant would have the potential to forge research and curricular links with other Dartmouth departments and programs.
