Interdisciplinary Summer Courses (CEU Sumner University/Budapest, Vienna)

CEU Summer University offers high-level, research- and policy-oriented interdisciplinary courses from June 26 to July 31, 2023. All courses will be held in Budapest (with the exception of one, which will be  taught in Vienna.)  

We invite applications from advanced undergraduates, MA and Ph.D. students, postdocs, junior faculty, early-stage researchers, and practitioners for the short, intensive courses taught by teams of internationally renowned scholars and policy experts (including CEU and OSUN professors). Financial aid is available.

Funding: Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies

The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies is pleased to announce its call for applications for funding and awards opportunities in 2023–24.

A primary aim of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies is to foster, develop, and support Ukrainian studies in Canada and internationally. This is done in part by offering or administering post-doctoral fellowships, graduate fellowships (to master’s and doctoral students), and scholarships to undergraduate students. Grants are also awarded to established scholars in order to support research work that leads to publications or the dissemination of results in other forms.

MA + Dual Degrees in Russian, E European, & Eurasian Studies (University of Texas at Austin)

The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies at The University of Texas at Austin is a two-year multidisciplinary program that offers advanced training for those qualified students who seek an integrated knowledge of the language, history, society and culture of the former Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and Eurasia. This graduate degree offers the opportunity to create an individually tailored program. Upon graduation, students will have an extensive understanding of the country or countries of specialization, including a working knowledge of one of the region’s languages. The program primarily serves students preparing for professional careers and those seeking an M.A. before pursuing a professional career trajectory or Ph.D. in a particular discipline.

Description

New York University’s Department of Russian and Slavic Studies seeks to hire a Ukraine specialist for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship starting in fall 2023, pending budgetary and administrative approval. Discipline is open: the appointment will be half in Russian and Slavic Studies and half in another department appropriate to the candidate’s field. Possibilities include but are not limited to history, literature, film, anthropology, political science, visual culture, media, sociology, and gender studies. Pay is competitive. Teaching load 2 courses per semester.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $60,000. The Association of Central Eurasian Students (ACES) at Indiana University
is requesting submissions for our annual conference. We are accepting abstracts
for 15-20 minute presentations on topics related to Central Eurasia. We welcome
proposals from all disciplinary backgrounds, as well as from any regional or
historical focus. Presentations may include, but are not limited to, topics in Iranian
(Afghan, Persian, Tajik), Mongolic, Tibetan, Tungusic, Turkic, and Uralic
(Balto-Finnic, Hungarian, etc.) studies.
Our mission at ACES is to bring together emerging scholars in the field of Central
Eurasian studies to exchange ideas and refine their research with feedback from
their peers. Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and independent
scholars are all invited to submit.
Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Conference will be tentatively held in
a hybrid format, both in-person in Bloomington, Indiana and virtually via Zoom,
on February 25, 2023. We welcome submissions from any part of the globe, so long
as presenters are able to participate online. Those who wish to present in-person
will be responsible for their own travel arrangements. Accepted panelists should
be prepared to give their presentation during normal business hours (9:00 A.M.-
5:00 P.M.) in U.S. Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5:00). All presentations will be
given in English.

Job Posting: Peace Corps Positions in Kosovo

TEFL/English Education Teacher–Primary or Secondary

English Education Volunteers work as primary and secondary school English teachers. Volunteers will be paired with a local English language teacher in a co-teaching classroom setting, with a focus on integrating student-centered methodologies, improving lesson planning, and classroom management. In addition to classroom teaching, Volunteers will work with the school administration to identify school needs, share resources, develop teaching materials, and become involved in community and school-based projects. By the end of their service, Volunteers are encouraged to develop a resource toolkit to share with their school for future use. Volunteers are also required to organize and facilitate extracurricular activities to develop life skills among students and youth, which may include clubs and/or camps in their communities.

*Following two highly successful Zoom Conventions in 2021 and 2022, the ASN World Convention is returning to Columbia University for a three-day in-person event to be held right after the graduation (Commencement) ceremonies on campus.
*The Convention is welcoming five different types of proposals: Individual Paper Proposal, Panel Proposal, Rooundtable Proposal, Book Panel Proposal, Film Proposal. Paper and panel proposals will be based on written papers.
*All panel chairs will be selected by the Program Committee, although exceptions are possible. Registration fees will be waived for discussants, unless they are making a presentation on a different panel.

We are a full service Slavic Department. Our programs cover a broad range of cultures and disciplines encompassing Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, and South Slavic languages and cultures.
