CFP: Special Section in East European Politics and Societies: New Debates in Romani Studies

Proposed title: Contested pasts and enduring injustices: New debates in Romani studies

Romani Studies scholars have recently scrutinized the field’s epistemology and Western paradigms, the lasting effect of structures and inequalities that transcend governmental change, the effect of integration policies and environmental racism, and the ethical imperatives of scholarly engagement with these issues. This thematic cluster invites contributions that critically engage with the newest emerging debates in Romani Studies that interrogate structures of power, racialization, and systemic exclusion in Central and Eastern Europe.

Job: Editor of Canadian Slavonic Papers

The Canadian Association of Slavists invites expressions of interest for the position of Editor of Canadian Slavonic Papers, starting in 2026 or 2027.  Founded in 1956, CSP is now the world’s highest ranked interdisciplinary Slavic studies journal.  This is an opportunity for a scholar (or pair of scholars), working in any field of Slavic studies, to read widely, mentor other scholars, and play a leadership role in the field’s development both in Canada and internationally.  Funds are available to the Editor(s) to employ an editorial assistant and office staff and to pay for a course release if necessary; additional funds may be available in the form of a research grant or other compensation for the Editor(s).  While affiliation with a Canadian higher education institution is preferred, the Association is open to other arrangements.  For further information, please contact the current Editors, James Krapfl and Rolf Hellebust, at csp@ualberta.ca by August 15, 2025.  The Association aims to have a succession plan in place by December 2025.

We invite you to submit a chapter proposal for a forthcoming edited collection titled Teaching Writing in English at the Decolonial Turn in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, under contract with the International Exchanges on the Study of Writing book series (WAC Clearinghouse). We also encourage you to share the linked call for proposals (CFP) with colleagues and graduate students who may be interested in contributing.

We invite contributions from colleagues in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia who are affiliated with colleges and universities where the language of instruction is English. Perspectives from instructors who specialize in writing, in composition and rhetoric, in writing center praxis, in literature, and in linguistics are welcome, as are contributions from disciplinary specialists who teach writing in their primary field of study. CFP: AATSEEL 2026 Conference

The General Call for Proposals, Call for Panel Stream Topics and Application for Research Lab Participants for the AATSEEL 2026 conference, which will be held in-person in New Orleans, LA on February 19-22, 2026, are now open and currently accepting submissions.

The AATSEEL annual meeting is a forum for scholarly exchange of ideas in all areas of Slavic and East/Central European languages, literatures, linguistics, cultures, and pedagogy. The Program Committee invites scholars in these and related areas to form panels around specific topics, organize roundtable discussions, propose forums on instructional materials, and/or submit proposals for individual presentations for the 2025 conference. The conference regularly includes panels in linguistics, pedagogy, second language acquisition, literatures, and cultures relevant to the organization’s regions of focus.
