Russian Studies at McGill invites applications from talented students.  As part of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, they offer a uniquely multi-cultural and interdisciplinary environment. Students and faculty are committed to open, culturally informed dialogue among national and across intellectual traditions.

The McGill faculty specializes in 19th-21st century Russian literature and culture, working in such areas as Russian Romanticism, the Russian novel, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Russian drama, opera, film, and folklore, Russian modernism, high Stalinist culture, post-Soviet culture, Russian visual culture, cultural mythology, symbolic geography, and intertextuality. Beyond Russian Studies, the Department hosts a broad and flexible range of graduate seminars, including literary theory, film, the digital humanities, and environmental and animal studies. A small but dynamic program allows for a great deal of personal attention, an atmosphere of collegiality and a close-knit intellectual community.

McGill University is world famous for its academic standards and scholarly achievements. Located in Montreal, a cosmopolitan and vibrant city, it provides a fascinating intellectual and cultural setting for serious graduate studies. Graduate students have collaborated with the Departments of Communication and Art History, Jewish Studies, the School of Music and the Women Studies program.

Financial support and teaching assistantships for qualified graduate students are available. Instruction and supervision are offered in second-language teaching.

Please note that incomplete applications (including letters of recommendation, testing scores (TOEFL, IELTS), transcripts, sample(s) of written work) by the application deadline will not be considered.

For Fall Admission:  January 6 (Canadian/Permanent Resident/International).

For Winter Admission:  September 15 (Canadian/Permanent Resident); August 14 (International).
