Academic Job: Tenure/TTrack Prof. (Uni. Pittsburgh)

Deadline for Applications: November 16, 2018

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Advanced Assistant or Associate Professor, with a specialization in nineteenth-century Russian literature and culture, to begin in August 2019, pending budgetary approval. The person hired will be expected to become Chair of the Department, a position that requires tenure, upon or shortly after hire. For that reason, candidates must be tenurable or, in the case of Assistant Professor applicants, sufficiently advanced in their careers to be tenurable within three years after the beginning of employment. The teaching load is four courses per year plus administrative responsibilities, reduced to two courses per year for Department Chairs.

Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate scholarly achievement and promise of continued scholarly achievement appropriate for the level of appointment, as well as a strong interest and meaningful experience in teaching. Native or near-native (or ACTFL superior-level) proficiency in English and Russian is required, and expertise in a second Slavic language and literature is desirable, as is experience in academic administration. In addition to undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in Russian literature and culture, the position may require teaching Russian language at all levels (including content-based advanced courses) and general-education literature and culture courses in English (both large, lecture-based courses and smaller, discussion-oriented ones).

Candidates should submit, through https://apply.interfolio.com/55815 a letter of application, CV, research and teaching profiles, representative student teaching evaluations, representative syllabi, samples of scholarly writing (the length of one or two journal articles), and the names and contact information for three persons able to provide confidential professional letters of recommendation (Letters are not needed at this time, but names of recommenders are required). Please also provide a brief description of how your research, teaching or service demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Questions may be directed to Ms. Monika Losagio, Administrative Officer (412-624-5221, losagio@pitt.edu). Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
