The Melikian Center for Russian Eurasian and East European Studies at Arizona State University is seeking an Associate Director with a concurrent appointment as Administrative Professional, for Education and Training to lead its summer intensive language program, the Critical Languages Institute (CLI) and assist center Director in other Education and Training related projects. This is a fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) benefits-eligible, non-tenure track position, renewable on an annual basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. The anticipated start date is April 22, 2019 or soon thereafter.  This position reports to the Director of the Melikian Center.

The successful candidate will hire, train, supervise and evaluate assigned staff, including CLI foreign language faculty associates, program coordinator and student workers. Oversees curriculum development and pedagogy of intensive summer program on ASU campus and the overseas programs. Designs publicity, outreach and recruitment campaigns to meet enrollment goals. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain relations with overseas providers and funding agencies. Manage logistical aspects of the Institute; participate in the development of long- and short-range goals, working collaboratively to advance language learning and area studies at ASU and beyond. Will assist with overseeing the design, development and coordination of the Center’s other educational programs and projects, including grant writing and management and regional studies certificate. Represent the Melikian Center and CLI in off-campus outreach and recruitment events. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD or other terminal degree in either area studies or a field related to second language pedagogy and instruction. Four (4) years related teaching and/or administrative experience, including supervisory experience; OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications:
—    Experience in managing or leading an intensive language-learning program.
—    Familiarity with federal funding programs including Title VI, Title VIII, Project GO and Startalk.
—    Experience with proficiency-based language acquisition and testing.
—    Demonstrated commitment to professional development in grant writing, budget development & oversight and post award activities.
—    Experience meeting the needs of diverse learning communities.
—    Evidence of multimedia literacy and effective work as part of a team.
—    Experience in producing reports of the analysis and evaluation of activities.
—    Familiarity with social media advertising, website updates and maintenance.
—    Experience in using Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
