Visiting Instructor of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (Russian)
Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time (6 courses), two-year position of Visiting Instructor (or Assistant Professor with appropriate qualifications) in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures to begin September 1, 2019.

The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures comprises five sections, one of which is the Russian and East European Studies program. The Russian and Eastern European Studies program is designed to give students a deeper understanding of the language, literature, culture, civilization, history and economics of Russia and other eastern and central European nations. While the main emphasis of study is on Russia and the Russian language, students are required to take classes in a variety of disciplines pertaining to this rich and culturally diverse region.
Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching assignment will be 6 courses. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in beginning, intermediate, and advanced Russian language, as well as Russian courses taught in English, and contributions to general education.

Minimum Qualifications:
We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate or who are ABD in Russian language and literature or in Russian studies, but will consider candidates who have a master’s degree;
Prior experience teaching Russian language to English-speakers/as a foreign language;
A commitment to undergraduate teaching and student mentoring;
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience teaching in a liberal arts college;
Experience teaching entry, intermediate, and advanced Russian language courses;
Experience teaching Russian literature or culture in their area of expertise; and
Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching.
