Job Description:The Global Strategies Officer (GSO) supports the Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Global Engagement (OSVPGE) and collaborates with all Texas Global units, 18 UT Schools/Colleges, faculty/staff, and international partners to advance the university’s global strategic efforts. The incumbent plays a key role in mapping UT internationalization activities on campus and abroad, collecting data that will inform and support decision-making pertinent to the development and implementation of institutional global strategies, and coordinating inbound and outbound intra-institutional delegations. The GSO also provides day-to-day programmatic support and assists in the creation of policies and procedures that are to be implemented within the OSVPGE and/or across the institution. Areas of geographic responsibilities include: Latin America/Caribbean, North Africa, Middle East, and Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Support International on-campus and off-campus Texas Global delegation visits:

Coordinate, in consultation with Texas Global leadership and colleagues across UT-Austin, a significant number of international visiting delegations on campus;

Ensure that all members of international visitor delegations meet with appropriate counterparts on campus; identify faculty/staff for delegation meetings; develop itinerary and prepare all collateral materials required for visit;

Conduct preliminary research, as necessary, and create briefs for UT delegation hosts;

Meet with visiting delegations and participating faculty/staff, as necessary; compile and synthesize feedback of discussions; debrief and present feedback and data of visiting delegations’ meetings to OSVPGE leadership team to determine follow-up action plan;

Provide timely follow-up contact with visitors and UT Austin participants to ensure that appropriate relationships with potential partners can be properly cultivated;

Evaluate institutions for potential linkages with UT-Austin via targeted travel accompanying Texas Global and UT delegations abroad.

  • International Partnerships:

Collaborate with units across campus to determine current landscape of Memoranda of Understandings, contracts, etc. with international partners. Determine level of activity and create mechanisms for oversight of agreements;

Create policies and procedures pertinent to MoUs and ensure that said procedures align with international education field.

Provide supporting data to leadership for the review of existing and developing exchanges and visiting student and scholar programs and activities;

Facilitate the review and approval of international collaboration agreements;

Represent the OSVPGE and participate in meetings across campus to ensure a more wholistic approach to partnership engagement.

  • Mapping Internationalization:

Gather data to illustrate global engagement on campus and abroad. Areas to be mapped include faculty research/creative activity, student/faculty mobility, on-campus global programs, international partnerships, and other areas of importance for mapping;

Serve as key member of OSVPGE advisory board and other committees to advance development and implementation of institutional strategies.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience in international education or an international field. Near native fluency (excellent writing and speaking skills) in a language from the geographical regions of responsibility. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Collaborative and proactive team player with the ability to serve as an effective role model and interact with individuals at all levels of the institution and with external contacts. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize workload, and remain organized in a fast-paced, deadline-sensitive environment. High level of intercultural competency skills, political savvy, diplomacy, strict adherence to confidentiality and an ability to be a nimble task-oriented team player. Experience working and/or studying abroad; strong commitment to keeping abreast of current trends and challenges in the field of international education. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD. and fluency in two or more languages from the regions of responsibility.

Salary Range

$50,000 – $60,000

Working Conditions

May work around standard office conditions. May require work outside of regular office hours, including evenings and weekends. Travel may be required. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs.
