The Midwest Slavic Association and the Center for Slavic and East European Studies at The Ohio State University invite you to attend the 2021 Midwest Slavic Conference to be held April 15 – 17 online via Zoom.
Keynote Address
The conference will open on Thursday, April 15, at 6:30PM EDT with the keynote address. Dr. Yvonne Howell (University of Richmond) will deliver this year’s keynote, “The Geography of Joy: Alex Dubas, Voices of Russian Happiness, and the Art of Translation”. Register here.
Plenary Panel
On Friday, April 16 from 10AM – 11:30AM EDT, Professors Hannah Chapman (Miami University), Smoki Musaraj (Ohio University), and Karen Petrone (University of Kentucky) will participate in the plenary panel to explore the topic of happiness with examples from their own research. With representation from political science, anthropology, and history, this plenary panel features an opportunity to experience deep disciplinary knowledge and interdisciplinary conversation at its Midwest best. Individual Presentation and Discussion Sessions
On Friday, April 16 from 1 – 5PM EDT, hour-long Zoom discussion and blog sessionswill be held grouped by discipline: history, linguistics, literature/culture/film, and social science. These sessions will facilitate discussion of pre-circulated video presentations and papers from individual participants. A full list of individual presentation topics is available. To gain access to the pre-circulated presentations and discussion forums, you must register in advance for the conference. Registration is free.
Panel Presentations
Conference panel sessions will take place on Saturday, April 17 from 10AM – 5:30PM EDT. The schedule of panels provides information on times for the six panel sessions and topics. Panel sessions will be held via Zoom. You must register in advance for the conference in order to access the Zoom panel sessions. Registration is free.
Student Events
To support student networking and professional development, CSEES will also be hosting two student-focused evening events to encourage students to met peers at different institutions across the Midwest region and share information on their research. More information will be published on the Special Events page about these events and with Zoom registration links. These events will be open to all students regardless of whether they are participating in or registered for the conference.
