The Wisconsin Russia Project at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks candidates for up to two appointments as Professor of Practice in the social sciences (anthropology, economics, geography, law/legal studies, political science, public policy, or sociology) who will conduct research and teach courses on contemporary Russian society. The positions will start on September 1, 2022, and last through August 31, 2024, with the possibility of extension through August 31, 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate will:Produce publications about Russia in major disciplinary journals. Teach one course per year. Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in conducting social science research on Russia. Participate in the intellectual community of the Wisconsin Russia Project, the Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia, and in their assigned social science department.
QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must possess a PhD or its equivalent (e.g. a “doktor nauk” degree) in a social science discipline. Applicants must have extensive experience conducting social science research and teaching university-level courses about Russia while residing in Russia in the last 3 years. Applicants must also have a strong record of prior English-language publications research in internationally recognized outlets (disciplinary journals or, for monographs, top university presses) about contemporary Russia.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A fall 2022 semester start date after September 1, 2022 may be possible, if visa application times do not allow the successful candidate to arrive in Madison by September 1.
