The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), in association with the Russian and East European Studies (REES) programme and St Antony’s College, propose to appoint an Associate Professor in the Economies of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia.

The Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) is one of the fifteen constituent parts of the Social Sciences Division at Oxford. It represents a commitment by the University to enhancing teaching and research in Area Studies.

About the Role:

The post is offered on a full-time basis, available from 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointments to Associate Professorships are confirmed as permanent on successful completion of a review during the first five years.

The post will be held in conjunction with a Governing Body Fellowship at St Antony’s College, and the post-holder will be a Fellow of the College’s Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre and a trustee of the College. They will play a role in the College including advising students, serving on committees, participating in its running and to the running and development of the Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre of St Antony’s College.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage actively in research and to contribute through world-class publications to the department’s and University’s international reputation for research excellence. Further responsibilities include teaching and supervising at the graduate level, contributing to administration and examining, and acting as a College Adviser for graduate students.

The post-holder will have a room for teaching and research in St Antony’s College.

About You:

You will be able to demonstrate:

•         A completed doctorate in economics, political economy or a closely related field, or evidence that it will be completed by 1 January 2023;

•         Research achievement at an international level appropriate to the stage of your career;

•         Engagement in research in one or more economies of the former Soviet Union;

•         Skills and commitment to contribute effectively to teaching, supervision and academic administration in the School;

•         Willingness to develop large externally funded research projects;

•         Evidence of training in economics to graduate level;

•         The ability to teach and advise on quantitative methods to graduate students in Area Studies;

•         A commitment to Area Studies as an intellectual project.

We invite applicants with expertise in the economies of the former Soviet Union (i.e. Baltics, Belarus, Central Asia, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, South Caucasus). This could include research that approaches economics from a political, social policy, or historical perspective.

We would especially like to encourage applications from women and Black and minority ethnic candidates, who are historically under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.

Salary (£) :          Salary on the scale within the range £50,300 – £67,541 per annum. St Antony’s College offers benefits including a housing allowance of £2,588 p.a. and other benefits; increasing in line with University cost of living awards.
