Job Posting: Research Fellow in Human Geography Policy and Development (Northumbria University, UK)

Deadline: Open Until Filled

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will support the Principal Investigator in the delivery of research activity on the project entitledDebordering Europe through the 2022 Ukrainian Refugee Crisis: Analysis of Responses in the UK, Poland and Romania’. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) under the UK in a Changing Europe initiative, the project aims to analyse responses to the 2022 Ukrainian refugee crisis in three countries – Poland, Romania, and the UK. The project team will work across four groups of stakeholders in each country – policy-makers, third sector organisations, host communities, and refugees from Ukraine.

You will contribute primarily to research in Poland and the UK, including co-designing and administering surveys of refugee and host communities with third sector partner organisations, undertaking focus groups and interviews with the four stakeholder groups and supporting the senior fellow, Professor Kathryn Cassidy, with an in-depth policy analysis.

The role will be affiliated to the Social and Cultural Geographies Research Group. You will be expected to work closely with team members and senior fellows within the UK in a Changing Europe initiative, whose Hub is based at Kings College London and will also benefit from a targeted programme of activities for ECRs within the initiative.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants should hold a doctorate in human geography or a related discipline and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge in critical border or migration studies. They will be fluent in both English and Ukrainian and a working knowledge of Polish, Russian and/or Romanian will be an advantage, in addition to experience of research involving organisations from the third sector.
