Acad. Job: Lecturer of Russian, Pushkin Summer Institute at UW-Madison

The Pushkin Summer Institute (PSI) is a five-week residential, precollege enrichment program held at University of Wisconsin-Madison for rising high-school juniors and seniors. The goals of the project are to build and improve students’ Russian language abilities; to build critical thinking, reading, and writing skills; to stimulate student interest in Russia and Russian studies; to prepare students for the demands of college life; to expose students to the opportunities UW-Madison and the Madison community have to offer.

Pending final approval of external funding, the Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia (CREECA) seeks to hire two, full-time PSI lecturers for summer 2023. PSI lecturers will be responsible for participating in orientation activities as well as instructor meetings throughout the six-week program. The six-week contract (June 11, 2023-July 22, 2023) includes one week of training and orientation (held virtually, June 12-16, 2023) and five weeks of instruction (in-person: June 19-July 21, 2023). Under the supervision of the PSI On-Site Director, PSI lecturers will
1. Teach a non-credit Russian course for high school students. Classes meet Monday-Friday, 8:50 -10:45 am and 12:05-2:10 pm. Full-time instructors (1.0 FTE) will teach both morning and afternoon.
2. Prepare syllabus, lesson plans, and teaching materials; prepare, administer, and grade classroom and homework assignments and exams; and hold office hours.
3. Participate in weekly all-staff meetings and all sessions of pedagogy workshops organized by PSI.
4. Lead at least two Russian cultural event during the program and participate in educational co-curricular events.
5. Hold one office hour for students per week.
