About Bellingcat
Bellingcat is an independent collective of international researchers investigating conflict, corruption, crimes, disinformation, extremist networks, and much more through open source and social media techniques. Our work has received multiple awards for its impact and innovation. At the heart of Bellingcat is a global community of staff, contributors, and volunteers working across disciplines — from journalism and research to technology.
About the Role
We are looking for a Community Operations & Project Manager to support our growing Volunteer Community and one of its core initiatives — Bellingcat’s Investigative Toolkit project. The role is split between community operations and project support, with at least three days per week dedicated to community operations. The exact balance may shift depending on community and project needs. You’ll join our Community Team and will be working closely with the Community Team Lead and the Toolkit Project Lead to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes, ensuring our global community of volunteers stays engaged, connected, and impactful.
We welcome candidates based in different regions and time zones, as long as there’s sufficient overlap in working hours to collaborate effectively with our Europe-based team members.
Key Responsibilities
🌍 Community Operations
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Volunteer Community, including annual, quarterly processes, and monthly/weekly community rituals (e.g., data collection and processing, application cycles, onboarding/offboarding, feedback collection).
- Coordinate community programs such as the Buddy Program, Expert Voice Program, and live learning sessions — and help design and launch new initiatives aligned with community goals.
- Curate and maintain community spaces and resources, including our internal Community Hub and regular community updates for our members.
- Support member engagement by encouraging co-hosted events and contributions to community content and internal knowledge base.
- Help map and improve the member journey across Bellingcat’s community ecosystem.
- Track progress against community strategy, ensuring smooth implementation and clear reporting in collaboration with the Community Team Lead.
