Scholarships and Internships Now Available to Students, Scholars and K12 Teachers
Folklore Expeditions Sponsored by American Friends of Russian Folklore
Whether you join us to interview witches in Romania, collect legends of Bronze Age cities in Siberia, document traditional lore in the Altai Mountains or study the Cossack comeback as a political and cultural force, you can apply for financial support for your Folklore Expedition participation.
American Friends of Russian Folklore now offers two types of scholarships —
- One AFRF Scholarship for $1500
- Two K12 Teachers’ Scholarships for $1000 each (funded by Indiana University’s Russian & East European Institute)
The scholarships apply towards the folklore expedition of your choice (see below).

AND — once you are in Russia, why not spend more time in Moscow? If you have strong English writing and editing skills, you can use them to polish rough English drafts of scholarly papers at the Gorky Institute of World Literature (IMLI). In return, IMLI will arrange an inexpensive, English-speaking home-stay and assist with your personal research project, or just help you find your way around Moscow.
