Senior Manager, Protection Programs
The senior manager for protection programs will drive forward ARC’s work to
protect artists at risk around the world. The role will develop a new
emergency grantmaking initiative and expand PEN America and ARC’s protection
programs for individuals in peril because of their creative expression. The
role requires experience working with individuals at risk or otherwise
vulnerable communities, ideally in the protection field, and a demonstrated
commitment to the arts and human rights internationally. This is a new full-
time position expected to be based at PEN America’s New York office. The
position reports to the Director, Artists at Risk Connection.

Early Slavic ESSA Travel Grant to ASEEES 2022

The Graduate Student Travel Award Committee of the Early Slavic Studies Association is seeking applications for a $300 grant to assist with the travel expenses of a graduate student who will be presenting a paper in person in the early Slavic field at the National Convention of the ASEEES in Chicago in November 2022. The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer of Russian Studies, pending budgetary approval. The appointment will begin on September 1, 2022, and end on April 30, 2023. Duties include (i) teaching a broad range of specialized as well as general education courses on Russian language, literature, and culture, sometimes in a comparative context, (ii) undergraduate mentoring, and (iii) service duties in the Department. The teaching load is six three-credit courses per year.

Rupture: When Things Fall Apart

We were warned, repeatedly. But on February 24, 2022, the vast majority of Ukrainians, Russians, and the rest of the world was stunned. Not only by the Russian invasion of Ukraine but also by how rapidly the order of things can radically change and crumble. In response, we are devoting a special issue of The Russian Review to the theme of Rupture: When Things Fall Apart. By “rupture” we imagine a sudden rift in historical time but also a spatial dis- and relocation that manifests in the fragmentation of regions and world areas as political units and subjects of knowledge. The peoples of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia have had recurrent experiences with socio-political and historical rupture, and our field has done extensive work on previous ruptures, most notably 1917 and 1991, years of rupture that “shook” and reconfigured the world.

Postdoctoral Fellowships: Institute for Advanced Study, School of Historical Studies

The Institute is an independent private institution founded in 1930 to create a community of scholars focused on intellectual inquiry, free from teaching and other university obligations. Scholars from around the world come to the Institute to pursue their research. Candidates of any nationality may apply for a single term or a full academic year. Scholars may apply for a stipend, but those with sabbatical funding, other grants, retirement funding, or other means are also invited to apply for a non-stipendiary membership. Open to all fields of historical research, the School of Historical Studies’ principal interests is the history of western, near eastern and Asian civilizations, with particular emphasis on Greek and Roman civilization, the history of Europe (medieval, early modern, and modern), the Islamic world, East Asian studies, art history, the history of science, and late modern history. Support is available each year for one scholar in music studies. A Ph.D. (or equivalent) and influential publications are required.
