Funding: Linda Hall Library Fellowship Program

The Linda Hall Library is now accepting applications for its 2023-24 fellowship program. These fellowships provide graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and independent scholars in the history of science and related humanities fields with financial support to explore the Library’s outstanding science and engineering collections. Fellows also participate in a dynamic intellectual community alongside in-house experts and scholars from other Kansas City cultural and educational institutions.

The Linda Hall Library holds nearly half a million monographs and more than 43,000 journal titles documenting the history of science and technology from the 15th century to the present. Its collections are exceptionally strong in the engineering disciplines, chemistry, and physics. In addition, the Library boasts extensive resources related to natural history, astronomy, earth science, environmental studies, aeronautics, life science, infrastructure studies, mathematics, and the history of the book.

Requirements: M.A. degree or higher in Russian language and culture or other relevant area, including second-language acquisition, applied linguistics, and language pedagogy. New York University’s Department of Russian and Slavic Studies seeks to hire a Ukraine specialist for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship starting in fall 2023, pending budgetary and administrative approval. Discipline is open: the appointment will be half in Russian and Slavic Studies and half in another department appropriate to the candidate’s field. Possibilities include but are not limited to history, literature, film, anthropology, political science, visual culture, media, sociology, and gender studies. Pay is competitive. Teaching load 2 courses per semester.

Applicants for the Frank Porter Graham chair in Global History should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in History or a related field and hold the rank of full professor with tenure (or equivalent) at the time of appointment. The UNC-Chapel Hill History Department seeks to appoint an outstanding scholar whose research and teaching considers questions related to global history, broadly defined. Regional specialists as well as scholars adopting international, transnational, and/or comparative approaches, whether within a particular region or beyond, are encouraged to apply. Summer Research Laboratory (University of Illinois)

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center and the Slavic Reference Service at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are pleased to announce a call for applications to the 50th annual Summer Research Laboratory (SRL). The program will take place June 12 – August 4, 2023. Funded in part by the U.S. Department of State’s Title VIII Program, the SRL program provides research support for graduate and post-graduate level research on Central and East Europe and the Independent States of the former Soviet Union.

We will provide support for both in-person and virtual associateships for scholars to conduct summer research concerning all aspects of Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Please note that the majority of Associateships will be in-person.

Job Summary: The Russian Department and the Russian and East European Studies Curricular Committee at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in Russian language, literature, and culture. We seek a dynamic, versatile, and broadly interdisciplinary scholar and pedagogue who shows strong potential for future leadership in both the program and the college, who can teach the Russian language at multiple levels, and who can offer a range of courses in translation, for a broad audience of majors and non-majors alike, on 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century Russian literature and corollary areas such as film, visual arts, music and the performing arts, philosophy, environmental studies, food studies, gender studies, the medical humanities, or the intersection of culture and politics. The ability to teach across multiple periods is desirable, as is secondary expertise in other (non-Russian) cultural traditions (including Europe, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Siberia). Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning fall semester of 2023, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.

IRES Visiting Researcher Program (Uppsala University)

The Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) at Uppsala University announces the call for applications for the IRES Visiting Researcher Program 2023. The program offers a one-month research fellowship at IRES, including travel, accommodation and a stipend of 20 000 SEK. The University of Kansas’ Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies is excited to announce the search for a new post-doctoral position. The CREES Cyber-Social Fellow will pursue research on regional and global cybersecurity and disinformation challenges arising from Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia and their social, cultural, and historical contexts. The Fellow will collaborate with KU’s new Center for Cyber-Social Dynamics, which is devoted to developing new approaches to cybersecurity and disinformation that take into account the crucial role played by cultural dynamics, social factors, and human-machine interaction. The position is interdisciplinary and open to a range of fields, including Anthropology, Communications, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Slavic Languages & Literatures, and Sociology.
