Boston University’s Department of World Languages & Literatures invites applications for a renewable full-time Lecturer in Russian beginning July 1, 2023. The position is a professional career track with possibility of growth. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include teaching five Russian courses per academic year, ranging from basic language to advanced content-based courses. The candidate will also serve as Coordinator of BU’s Russian Language program: developing curriculum; collaborating closely with faculty in Russian, other languages, and in related fields across campus. Demonstrated ability to train and mentor instructors; to administer a program; and to use digital learning platforms and other instructional technologies are highly desirable. Requirements include an MA (at minimum) in Russian or a related field; native or near-native command of Russian and English; commitment to a proficiency-based communicative curriculum; leadership and administrative ability; familiarity with the North American higher education system; and demonstrated excellence in college-level Russian language teaching.

Acad. Job: Assistant Professor of Slavic Studies, Brown University

The Department of Slavic Studies at Brown University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Slavic Studies, beginning July 2023.
Qualified candidates will have native or near-native fluency in Russian and a strong background in the last four centuries of Russian literature and culture (documented by publication/s). We seek a dynamic teacher and an original scholar who can teach across different periods and genres of Russian literature, including the XVIII century. We expect a successful candidate to be able to teach from an interdisciplinary perspective in dialogue with other branches of the humanities, such as visual studies, art history, or theater and performing arts.

Candidates should provide: a letter of application; a dissertation abstract; a current CV; one writing sample of scholarly work (25pp maximum); three confidential letters of recommendation; and a brief description of research, teaching (including teaching evaluations), and service. Job Posting: Project Officer and Postdoctoral Researcher in Anthropology

Please find below details of 2 post-doc positions in the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME) and the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford on Reproductive Mobilities in Central Asia

I’m seeking to recruit 2 full time post-doctoral researchers and a project officer (0.5FTE) to join a new Wellcome-funded project on reproductive mobilities in Central Asia (‘repromobilities’). The posts are for 33 months in the first instance (36 months for the Project Officer position) and Oxford-based, though I am very happy to consider and advocate for partial remote working where this better suits the right candidate. It is anticipated that the two post-docs will be engaged in 10 months’ ethnographic fieldwork in Central Asia from October 2023.

The Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures (DSEELC) at The Ohio State University invites applications for a position at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor. We seek an innovative scholar and excellent teacher whose research program centers on Indigenous Siberian Studies. We invite scholars whose research interests explore questions about indigenous people’s knowledges and cultural practices as they intersect with one or more of the following: race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, im/mobility, health, food, and environment, in imperial/post-imperial, communist/post-communist, or comparative contexts. While we will give preference to candidates with a research profile in Indigenous Siberian Studies, we will also consider applicants whose work examines this set of questions around the experiences of non-Slavic communities in other parts of the Russian Federation or who look at indigenous communities in a comparative perspective, as well as scholars who investigate “Siberia” as a constructed and contested colonial location. Ideally, candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a record of community engagement is desirable. Acad. Job: Assistant Professor of the Practice in East European Film Studies (Duke University)

The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at Duke University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice Position in East European Film and Media Studies, beginning July 1, 2023. This position is renewable and entails promotion to Associate and Professor levels, dependent on the candidate’s successful reviews.

We seek a dynamic, engaging teacher who is invested in expanding our curriculum in film and media studies across national boundaries. The successful candidate should have a strong teaching portfolio and expertise in at least two or three East European cinemas. They should have native or near-native fluency in at least one East European language other than Russian. Some knowledge of Russian cinema is a plus.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Film Studies, Slavic/East European Languages and Cultures, or another relevant field by July 1, 2023.

The Department of Slavic Languages at Columbia University invites applications for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Russian Language to begin on July 1, 2023.  This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful review.  The successful applicant will be considered for the role of Director of the Russian Language Program and will be expected to serve in this role when needed. 

Applicants should be able to teach all levels of Russian at the university level to native speakers of English and show documented evidence of exceptional teaching achievement, as well as evidence of professional achievement in the field of Russian language pedagogy.  Applicants should be able to train and organize language lecturers and graduate student instructors and to administer a program. 

Academic training in language pedagogy, language acquisition, and/or applied linguistics is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of web-based and other computer-oriented applications for the production of learning materials is highly desirable.

Acad. Job: Teaching Assistant Professor of Russian Language, Literature, and Culture (Univ. of Pittsburgh)

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a non-tenure-stream faculty position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor to begin in August 2023, pending budgetary approval. Duties include (i) teaching a broad range of specialized as well as general education courses on the Russian language (all levels), literature, and culture, sometimes in a comparative context, (ii) undergraduate mentoring, (iii) active participation in outreach and cultural as well as intellectual programming, and (iv) additional service duties in the Department. The teaching load is six three-credit courses per year.

A Ph.D. in Slavic or a related field is required at the time of appointment. Native or near-native (or ACTFL superior-level) proficiency in English and Russian is required, and expertise in a second Slavic language and literature is desirable. Experience teaching Russian language, literature, and culture courses at a North American institution of higher education is strongly preferred.

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Department of German and Russian invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Russian, beginning in July 2023. The candidate can expect to teach all levels of the Russian language, linguistics, literature, and culture. The teaching load is 3/2. The preferred area of specialization is Russian historical linguistics or applied linguistics, with a preference for the ability to address the linguistic diversity of Russia. Experience in teaching the History of the Russian language is especially welcome, as is knowledge of other Slavic languages. A degree in Russian is required as well as native or near-native fluency.
