The Russian program in the Department of German and Russian at Brigham Young University seeks applications for a tenure-track faculty or visiting position specializing in Russian language, linguistics, literature, or culture. Program Assistant (Kennan Institute)

The Kennan Institute seeks to improve understanding and analysis of Russia, Ukraine, and the post-Soviet space by promoting original research, encouraging public discussion, and enhancing policymaking in the United States and the region. The Kennan Institute maintains an ongoing focus on U.S. – Russian relations, legal reform, global trade, , foreign policy and international relations.

The incumbent will work with the Kennan Institute (KI) Director to develop a wide range of initiatives on programming in the region. The responsibilities will include:

Developing conferences and seminars—to include designing the agenda, recruiting speakers, and working with other KI staff and partner organizations to ensure the implementation of needed logistical arrangements.
Drafting and assisting with all phases of producing publications based on events and projects, to include original writing, editing, and overseeing all aspects of the editing, design, and printing of bulletins, reports, and articles in the associate’s areas of expertise;
Arranges travel and hotel accommodations for staff members and participants in the Institute’s activities.
Publish and manage upcoming event information on the wilsoncenter.org website.
Updating purchase orders, confirming meetings, and other administrative tasks.
Managing the day-to-day operations of the Kennan Institute.
Identifying and working closely with partner organizations in areas of expertise, maintaining fluid communications and exchange and identifying opportunities for joint activities.
Conducting outreach and engagement with KI’s network of Fellows and Global Fellows, including fellowships sponsored by the Kennan Institute.
Working closely with other KI staff on budget oversight and management.

The Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at Duke University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of the Practice Position in East European Film and Media Studies, beginning July 1, 2023. This position is renewable and entails promotion to Associate and Professor levels, dependent on the candidate’s successful reviews.

We seek a dynamic, engaging teacher who is invested in expanding our curriculum in film and media studies across national boundaries. The successful candidate should have a strong teaching portfolio and expertise in at least two or three East European cinemas. They should have native or near-native fluency in at least one East European language other than Russian. Some knowledge of Russian cinema is a plus.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Film Studies, Slavic/East European Languages and Cultures, or another relevant field by July 1, 2023.

Language Residents (LRs) are university graduates from a range of countries who are native speakers of one of the six main languages taught at Pomona: Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish. Each year, Oldenborg recruits, hires, and trains these early-career professionals to come to Pomona College to mentor and instruct students in the target language. LRs do this through teaching conversation classes, supporting language tables, mentoring students in the language residence hall, organizing cultural events, and much more!

Boston University’s Department of World Languages & Literatures invites applications for a renewable full-time Lecturer in Russian beginning July 1, 2023. The position is a professional career track with possibility of growth. The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include teaching five Russian courses per academic year, ranging from basic language to advanced content-based courses. The candidate will also serve as Coordinator of BU’s Russian Language program: developing curriculum; collaborating closely with faculty in Russian, other languages, and in related fields across campus. Demonstrated ability to train and mentor instructors; to administer a program; and to use digital learning platforms and other instructional technologies are highly desirable. Requirements include an MA (at minimum) in Russian or a related field; native or near-native command of Russian and English; commitment to a proficiency-based communicative curriculum; leadership and administrative ability; familiarity with the North American higher education system; and demonstrated excellence in college-level Russian language teaching.

Qualified candidates will have native or near-native fluency in Russian and a strong background in the last four centuries of Russian literature and culture (documented by publication/s). We seek a dynamic teacher and an original scholar who can teach across different periods and genres of Russian literature, including the XVIII century. We expect a successful candidate to be able to teach from an interdisciplinary perspective in dialogue with other branches of the humanities, such as visual studies, art history, or theater and performing arts.

I’m seeking to recruit 2 full time post-doctoral researchers and a project officer (0.5FTE) to join a new Wellcome-funded project on reproductive mobilities in Central Asia (‘repromobilities’). The posts are for 33 months in the first instance (36 months for the Project Officer position) and Oxford-based, though I am very happy to consider and advocate for partial remote working where this better suits the right candidate. It is anticipated that the two post-docs will be engaged in 10 months’ ethnographic fieldwork in Central Asia from October 2023.

The Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures (DSEELC) at The Ohio State University invites applications for a position at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor. We seek an innovative scholar and excellent teacher whose research program centers on Indigenous Siberian Studies. We invite scholars whose research interests explore questions about indigenous people’s knowledges and cultural practices as they intersect with one or more of the following: race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, im/mobility, health, food, and environment, in imperial/post-imperial, communist/post-communist, or comparative contexts. While we will give preference to candidates with a research profile in Indigenous Siberian Studies, we will also consider applicants whose work examines this set of questions around the experiences of non-Slavic communities in other parts of the Russian Federation or who look at indigenous communities in a comparative perspective, as well as scholars who investigate “Siberia” as a constructed and contested colonial location. Ideally, candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a record of community engagement is desirable. The candidate will be able to offer introductory courses in Ohio State’s newly re-designed General Education program, as well as upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in the department and will contribute to DSEELC’s strengths in cultural studies.
