Slavic Languages and Literatures

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures seeks applications for a College Fellow in Russian Language and Literature. The appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2019. The College Fellow will have teaching responsibilities, with 25 percent of the appointment reserved for the Fellow’s own research. Teaching duties will include three courses or the equivalent: two courses or the equivalent at any level in the Russian language program and a tutorial for concentrators in Russian literature. The Fellow may also be asked to advise and evaluate senior theses as a regular part of their responsibilities.

The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent on performance, position availability, curricular need, and divisional dean authorization.

Acad. Job: Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Russian Literature and Culture (Harvard)

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Harvard University seeks to appoint a tenure-track assistant professor in Russian literature and culture; the field is open. The Department seeks candidates with broad interdisciplinary interests. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2020. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, typically two courses per semester, including required and elective courses, as well as freshman seminars. We are seeking an energetic colleague who will be committed to building our program in literature and the humanities, someone who is ready to share in advising students as well as to participate fully in the intellectual life of the university.

Candidates may specialize in any area of modern Russian literature and culture, including fiction, documentary prose, poetry, film, theory, the performing arts, and visual culture. Additional expertise in cultures of the former Soviet bloc outside Russia is welcome. Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching and potential for innovative scholarship are desired.

Qualifications: Doctorate in Slavic Languages and Literatures or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins. Native or near-native Russian and fluency in English are required.

Acad. Job: Russian Instructor (Colorado Springs)

The Department of Slavic Languages and literatures at the University of Kansas seeks applicants to provide language instruction for active duty military personnel within the KU Language Training Center program. Applicants will be expected to teach a series of 4-week intensive courses to be held at Fort Carson near Colorado Springs, Colorado. This is a full-time, year-round position and assumes the applicant is available to relocate. Acad. Job: Polish Institute of Advanced Studies Fellowship

Polish Institute of Advanced Studies PIASt invites applications for 5- or 10-month research fellowships, starting their residencies from October 2020.

ELIGIBILITY
At the time of the application, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Poland for more than 6 months during the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date – October 31st 2019 (short stays such as holidays do not count).

Applications are open to active researchers at two stages of their careers:

–    juniors/postdocs, who have obtained their PhD in the last 10 years and have subsequent working experience as researchers for at least three years prior to the application date (PhD training is not included in the calculation of research experience) – 4 fellowships;

–    seniors/professors, who have minimum 10 years of full-time research experience after obtaining a PhD – 8 fellowships.

Manages all day-to-day operations of both the Institute for European Studies (EURO), a Title VI Comprehensive National Resource Center, and the Polish Studies Center (PSC), including administrative functions, programming, and outreach. Serves as the principal administrative liaison between EURO and PSC and their various constituencies within and beyond the IUB campus. Specifically, this position manages and implements the EURO Title VI grant; identifies and writes new grant proposals for EURO and POSC; works with the director of EURO to enhance student recruitment; Promotes and advertises EURO’s wide range of degrees and certificates; Searches out curriculum development opportunities and coordinates course submissions; oversees the administrative and financial functions of EURO and POSC; coordinates EURO and POSC programming and student support; hires and supervises GAs and hourly staff; and directs outreach activities to K-12 students and teachers, academia and general audience. In collaboration with the Director of Institute for European Studies and the Director of the Polish Studies Center, the assistant director will also help create new strategic directions and plans for both centers, as well as maintain communication with and support of affiliated faculty. The Assistant Director manages both units’ institutional capacities and oversees the grant making and program activities in both its academic and outreach components.
