Job title: Visiting Assistant Professor, Russian & Slavic Studies

Job description: The University of Arizona seeks a specialist in Russian literature and culture (20th c to present); with an innovative research agenda and strong teaching record. Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrated excellence in a variety of methodologies including blended learning technologies preferred. Ability and willingness to teach at all levels: Russian literature, language and culture, as well as general education courses. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary interests, as well as secondary interest in Eastern Europe and/or Eurasia, preferred. Visiting faculty are expected to teach three courses per semester, maintain an active research agenda, and perform appropriate service.

The Department of Russian & Slavic Studies is a dynamic unit actively engaged in undergraduate education through its double-track Russian major and its contribution to the University’s general education mission. The department has an excellent MA program, and engages the local and global community through experiential learning, faculty presentations, and Study Abroad programs.

The candidate will contribute to the department’s mission by engaging students through excellence in teaching and contributing to research-based learning initiatives, expanding and supporting community and business partnerships, and contributing to fostering and maintaining interdisciplinary synergies across colleges and units.

The Department of German and Russian at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor (depending on qualifications) of Russian and Russian Studies to begin Fall 2018. This is a one-year appointment. We seek a strong Russian teacher with a record of successful and innovative teaching. The ability to offer Russian literature and culture courses is desirable. This 70% benefits-eligible position carries a teaching load of 3 courses, plus drill sections for first and second-year Russian language courses. An M.A. is a minimum qualification for the position. Native or near-native fluency in Russian and English are required.

ACLS invites applications for the eighth competition of the Mellon/ACLS Public Fellows program. This year, the program will place up to 25 recent PhDs from the humanities and humanistic social sciences in two-year term staff positions at partnering organizations in government and the nonprofit sector. Fellows will participate in the substantive work of these organizations and receive professional mentoring. Fellows receive a stipend of $67,500 per year, individual health insurance, a relocation allowance, and up to $3,000 to be used toward professional development activities over the course of the fellowship term.

Applicants must:

• possess US citizenship or permanent resident status;
• have a PhD in the humanities or humanistic social sciences (see note on eligible fields below) conferred between September 1, 2014 and June 22, 2018; and
• defend and file/deposit their completed dissertations no later than April 6, 2018, and be prepared to verify this with official university documentation during the review and selection process.

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position with a specialization in nineteenth-century Russian literature beginning August 2018, pending budgetary approval. Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. Native or near-native (or ACTFL superior-level) proficiency in English and Russian required. In addition to undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in Russian literature and culture, the position may require teaching Russian language at all levels (including content-based advanced courses) and general-education literature and culture courses in English.

FACULTY LECTURER POSITION IN RUSSIAN STUDIES

Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, McGill University

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLC) at McGill University invites applications for a Part-Time Faculty Lecturer position in Russian Studies. Ph.D. in Russian Studies or a related field preferred, but candidates with a M.A. degree will be considered. Extensive teaching experience and excellent teaching record at the university level are required. Duties include teaching Russian language on all levels. Expertise in current approaches to foreign language teaching, a critical and creative attitude to instructional technology, and an ability to meaningfully relate language acquisition to literature and culture are expected, as is a willingness to actively participate in program-related Departmental events and activities.

The teaching for the position is 12 credits per academic year, with the possibility of additional teaching in the summer session. The Initial appointment of Faculty Lecturer is 3 years; appointment is renewable and becomes indefinite after a period of 6 years of continuous employment. Start of appointment 1 August 2018. Salary will be negotiable, according to qualifications and experience.

The University of Pittsburgh seeks two experienced Russian language instructors to lead our intensive 4^th-year Russian courses this summer.

• Summer Language Institute, June 1 – July 27, 2018.  Location = University of Pittsburgh
• Pitt’s Project GO-Advanced Program, June 17 – August 10, 2018.  Location = Narva College, Narva, Estonia

Candidates must have a Master’s degree or higher in philology, linguistics, language teaching or a closely related field; possess native proficiency in Russian; and have experience designing upper-level Russian language curriculum and teaching Russian at the university level to non-native speakers. Strong preference will go to candidates who have successfully taught in intensive language programs, have OPI certification (or training), and can articulate the methodologies they will employ to advance students’ proficiency levels across all modalities. In both programs, courses run from 9am – 3pm daily Monday – Friday for eight weeks; in addition to language classes, instructors will be expected to contribute to cultural programming.

Lecturer in Polish

The Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures and Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for the position of a full-time Lecturer in Polish, for a one-year renewable term starting on 1 July 2018.

The primary duty is instruction and support in Polish, including two levels (6 courses) of language study per year. This course load will be supplemented by additional teaching responsibilities, to be coordinated by the department, including up to 2 courses from the following categories: Humanities Core courses, non-language courses (literature, culture, film, history, linguistics, etc.), or language courses in either Russian or Czech.

Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated expertise in current theory of second-language acquisition. Knowledge of one or more other Slavic languages, especially Russian or Czech, is desirable but not required.

The position is open to candidates who will have completed an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline (MA, preferably PhD) by June 30, 2018, have native or ACTFL superior-level proficiency in Polish and English, and have teaching experience at the college level.
