We invite paper proposals for a guaranteed Slavic and East European session at the 2022 MLA Convention in Washington, DC:

Border-crossings, Late Arrivals: Literary Migrations from the East
The session explores post-Cold War migration narratives, focusing on East European points of departure and on literature produced in languages acquired under the conditions of displacement. How can literary migration be thought beyond the transnational turn?

The First Wave of Russian Emigration Symposium series 2020–22

The Research Centre for Russian Studies and Methodology of Eötvös Loránd Univeristy (Budapest), the A. M. Gorky Institute of World Literature RAS (Moscow), the Historical Faculty of Ural Federal University (Yekaterinburg) and the Vyacheslav Ivanov Research Centre (Rome) invite you to participate in the 2^nd event of a series of symposia on The First Wave of Russian Emigration, which will take place on April 1, 2021, online.

The aim of the 2^nd symposium “The First Wave of Russian Emigration: Cult and Everyday Life” is to explore a range of current research topics regarding the cults and everyday life practices of the first wave of Russian emigration between 1920–1940.

The International Nabokov Society invites paper proposals for a guaranteed session at MLA 2022 (Washington, D.C., 6-9 January 2022).  We invite papers on Nabokov’s languages, the transnational and  multi-lingual Nabokov, his invented languages, translation (between languages, cultures and different genres and media), Nabokov’s theory of language, Nabokov’s style,  etc.  We particularly welcome comparative, transnational, and intermedial perspectives.  Please send 250-word abstracts and brief CVs to siggy.frank@nottingham.ac.ukandzokuzmanovich@davidson.edu by 15  March 2021.

We are seeking two to three participants for our panel “Yoga in Russia: Past and Present” at the 2021 ASEEES Convention in New Orleans. 

This panel seeks to examine the theory and practice of yoga in Russia as a peculiarly Russian phenomenon and as part of a global health and spiritual movement. Relevant topics include: 

• Yogic practices as part of interest in “Eastern” wisdom in the late Russian Empire
• The theory and practice of yoga in Russia as relation to those in the West
• “Russian Yogis:” Elena Roerich, Indra Devi, and other practitioners and popularizers
• Yoga in the Soviet Union
• Yoga in Russia today

We invite paper proposals from graduate students (PhD, MA) at any stage working on a topic related to the history of the late Soviet Union (1953–1991). This conference allows graduate students to present their original and ongoing work in a professional environment, and to receive feedback from peers and experts within the field. We also extend an invitation to undergraduate students who have begun rigorous independent research related to the late Soviet Union.

Proposals may include topics related to the political, cultural, social, environmental, or economic history of the Soviet Union between 1953-1991.
