Deadline for Applications: March 15, 2017

The Russian Studies Workshop (RSW) at Indiana University (IU) is offering $6500 to cover tuition/mandatory fees (approximately $3000), and living costs to eligible students who enroll in a 6-credit graduate Russian course in the IU Summer Language Workshop (SLW) during the Summer 2017 session.

Eligibility:  Students who: 1) are entering a PhD program in a social science discipline at a US university in Fall 2017; and 2) intend to study Russian at any level in SLW from June 5 to July 28, 2017.

Deadline for submission for all materials: March 15, 2017

Application instructions:

2. Submit the following items by email to Mark Trotter at martrott@indiana.edu with “Russian Studies Workshop Summer Russian Study Fellowship application” in the subject line:
   • A 400-750 word personal statement that outlines the role of Russian language in your research and training program.*
   • A list of two or three recommenders (see item 4 below) with their titles, affiliations, and email addresses.

Deadline for Applications: February 15, 2017

Thanks to the Stephen Cohen fellowship, NYU hopes to offer funding (up to full tuition) to their best candidates. To be considered for this and other NYU scholarships, applications must be submitted by Feb. 15, 2017.

The department offers an interdisciplinary M.A. in Russian and Slavic studies, a program that allows students to take Russia-related courses in departments across NYU. In addition to the departmental curriculum’s particular strengths in literature and film, the course of study can encompass a wide variety of specializations, from history and anthropology to politics, music, linguistics, and performance studies. With its focus on interdisciplinarity and comparative methodologies, the program can serve as excellent preparation for graduate study at the Ph.D. level. It also provides a thorough grounding in the Russia field for terminal M.A. students who choose to pursue a career in this area. Indiana University alumni Ann Jakisich Erne and David A. Erne have established the Ann and David Erne Fellowship to support the studies of an incoming graduate student enrolled in the Russian and East European Institute Master’s degree plan. The one-year fellowship provides a stipend of $22,000; College of Arts and Sciences fee remission towards 12 hours of College of Arts and Sciences credit in both the Fall and Spring semesters as well as 6 hours of College of Arts and Sciences credit in the following summer session; and health insurance. The fellowship is renewable for an additional year for recipients who maintain satisfactory academic standing. No separate application is necessary (i.e. the standard application to the REEI MA program will also serve as application for this fellowship). Natives of Serbia, persons of Serbian heritage, and persons who demonstrate a strong scholarly focus on Serbia will be given special consideration in the selection process.

The fellowship will be awarded every other year, beginning in 2017-18.
