More specifically, PAE-REACT is seeking a project coordinator to ensure results-based management and implementation of and reporting on project funds in compliance with OSCE programmatic guidelines and regulations in the areas of democratization, police affairs, media, and rule of law and human rights; to co-ordinate a project on “Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization Threats”; as well as to advise and support to the host country’s Strategy and Action Plan for the Prevention and Countering of Terrorism; to develop initiatives to promote municipal inter-communal dialogue including civic/youth engagement; and to liaise with national, international and civil society counterparts.

Job: Summer Russian Language Instructor (STARTALK)

The University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Russian and East European Studies (REES) seeks an educator with experience teaching Russian at the high school level to serve as an instructor in our STARTALK program.  Twenty high school students will engage in an intensive and immersive 4-week residential summer program on the University of Pittsburgh’s main campus.  10 students are absolute beginners; 10 have completed one year of Russian study at their home high school.  The ideal candidate for this position will have a detailed knowledge of ACTFL’s 5 C’s of Foreign Language Education and experience building these goal areas into curricula.

The Pitt STARTALK program runs June 18-July 15, 2017.  The instructor will work with a strong team, comprised of one additional instructor and three graduate students who act as the program’s TA/RAs.  All staff members are provided housing and meals for the duration of the program.   The instructor, ideally, will be available to arrive to Pittsburgh by June 15 to engage in pre-program organization and training.

Requirements

  • Minimum of superior-level Russian language proficiency.
  • Experience teaching Russian to high school students
  • Available June 15-July 15, 2017 to be in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • Available in advance of the program to collaborate on curriculum over the phone and/or on Skype with other instructors.
  • Experience with a performance-based communicative approach to foreign language pedagogy
  • Familiarity with ACTFL’s Proficiency Benchmarks and Can-do statements and 5 C’s of Foreign Language Education

Preferred

  • Experience teaching underserved minority students
  • Strong background in foreign language pedagogy
  • Strong background in assessment-based proficiency goals
