Funding: Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (U. of Wisconsin-Madison)

The Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute (CESSI) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is now accepting applications! We offer courses in intensive elementary and intermediate Kazakh, Tajik, Uyghur, and Uzbek. Additional levels and languages (such as Kyrgyz) may be added with sufficient student interest.

Graduate students, researchers, and professionals who are US citizens are especially encouraged to apply for the Title VIII fellowship, which covers full tuition plus a stipend of $2,500 for the summer. FLAS fellowships are also available for eligible undergraduate and graduate students, and all applicants are eligible for tuition remission scholarships. About the program:

CESSI is an intensive, eight-week language program held each summer in Madison, Wisconsin. CESSI will be held from June 17 to August 9, 2019. Students receive the equivalent of one year of language study during this time and earn eight credits upon completion of the program.  In addition to language classes, CESSI students have the opportunity to attend lectures on Central Eurasia; participate in cultural events, including traditional cooking demonstrations; engage with local Central Eurasian communities; and network with other scholars of Central Eurasia. CESSI is a great way for students to gain language skills before studying abroad, applying for jobs, or conducting fieldwork in the region. Students of all disciplines and academic programs are welcome!

Lang. Training: Summer Lang Workshop 2019 (Indiana Uni)

The 2019 Indiana University Summer Language Workshop is now accepting applications for intensive summer courses in: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS), German, Hungarian, Russian, and Ukrainian, as well as 19 other languages.

* Courses run June 3 to July 28
* Russian Levels 1 and 2 runs May 28 to July 28
* 2 semesters of instruction in 2 months (6-10 credits)
* Immersion options available for Russian
* Extensive cultural programming

Prof. Dev.: Year long Fellowship in Moscow (Alfa Bank)

The Alfa Fellowship is now accepting applications for their 2019-20 year program.

The Alfa Fellowship Program is a distinguished international initiative that each year offers up to 18 accomplished young Americans, Britons, and Germans the opportunity to complete a high-level professional development program in Russia. Over the course of the program, fellows complete work placements at leading institutions, attend professional seminars, and receive intensive language training. The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend, accommodation, insurance, all program-related travel costs, language training in Russia, and private tutoring in the U.S., U.K., or Germany.

The Alfa Fellowship Program brings young professionals with considerable expertise to Moscow to both experience the Russian work culture and to contribute their knowledge in a professional setting. Fellows’ backgrounds and interests are diverse, but generally lie in the areas of business, economics, journalism, law, public policy or related fields. Fellows are required to have a Master’s degree, at least two years of work experience, a strong interest in Russian and Eurasian affairs, exceptional academic and professional credentials, and proven personal initiative and leadership skills in order to qualify for the program.

Study Abroad – Spring Break 2019 – USA in Eastern Europe: Ukraine 2019

Spend Spring Break (March 04 – May 24, 2019) in Ukraine learning about its culture and place in the international community! Students will receive 3 credit hours while spending 8 days in Kyiv and Lviv exploring the country’s complex history, culture, economy, and politics.

Study Abroad: Math in Moscow (MCCME)

Math in Moscow is a joint project of the Independent University of Moscow, the Higher School of Economics, the Moscow Center for Continuous Mathematical Education for undergraduate or graduate students specializing in math and/or computer science to study math for one semester in Moscow. Established in 2001, over 350 students from 180 universities have participated in the program. Over 100 of them have already received their PhD degrees. Study Abroad: Russian Language Winter School (Omsk)

Dostoevsky OmSU invites international students who are interested in learning the Russian language and immersing themselves in the Russian traditional culture to take part in our Russian Language Winter School.
Russian Language Winter School in February is a 2-week intensive program that aims to provide students with the opportunity to learn and/or practice Russian, and explore what Siberia has to offer.
Course Fees: 30 000 RUB (approx. 385 €/450 USD).
Upon the completion of the program, students will get the Russian Language School Certificate (4 ETCS).
Russian Language classes are taught by experienced language teaching professionals (teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language) and follow a communicative approach to language teaching. In addition to in-class Russian language instruction, students will attend lectures of cultural and academic interest.
An extensive social and cultural program is designed to help participants gain a valuable overview of Russian culture based on local Siberian heritage as well as keep them learning, exploring Omsk and experiencing new things.

Grad Program: M.A. in St. Petersburg (Euro Uni.)

European University in St. Petersburg is currently offering two MA programs in English. Many courses on various subjects are offered, in addition to Russian language courses.

–          IMARES (Russian and Eurasian Studies) focuses on Russian and Eurasian History, Politics, Culture and Arts. A full list of IMARES courses with their brief descriptions can be found here.

–          ENERPO (Energy Politics in Eurasia) is the other MA program. It provides a deep understanding of the Eurasian and global oil and gas affairs, markets and trends. A full list of ENERPO courses is available here.

Eligibility: BA degree. No prior knowledge of Russian is needed.
