ASPIRANTUM – Armenian School of Languages and Cultures (https://aspirantum.com) is pleased to announce its third International Armenian Language 2 and 3 weeks winter school in Yerevan, Armenia to take place from December 02, 2018 to December 15, 2018 (2 weeks) and December 02, 2018 to December 22, 2018 (3 weeks).

This 14 or 21 days’ winter school offers participants to master skills in written and oral modern Armenian, reading and interpreting Armenian texts from different periods as well as rapidly deepening their knowledge in colloquial Armenian.
During the winter school cultural trips will be offered, which will transform your stay in Armenia into an unforgettable, academically oriented endeavour.

Language Training: Summer Language Institute (U. of Pittsburgh)

The Slavic, East European, and Near Eastern Summer Language Institute (SLI) at the University of Pittsburgh is pleased to announce that several full and partial scholarship opportunities have opened up for language study this summer in Pittsburgh and in our study abroad programs.

Intensive courses worth one year of academic credit are offered in Beginning Turkish, Russian (Beginning-4th year), Polish (Beginning-Advanced), Czech (Beginning-Advanced), and Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian (Beginning-Advanced). Places are available in study abroad programs in Montenegro, Poland, and the Czech Republic.

Study Abroad: Critical Languages Program (ASU Melikian Center)

The Critical Languages Institute at Arizona State University’s Melikian Center is still enrolling for the 2018 summer semester, in selected languages. They are proud to offer a tuition-free program, regardless of residency. Students pay a flat fee of $1,500 for 4-13 semester credits, plus study-abroad fees if they opt to join an overseas program. Programs are offered in the U.S., overseas, or in “combination” courses that include both U.S. and overseas components.

FUNDING:
Select scholarships are available for Albanian, Armenian, Polish, Ukrainian, and Uzbek.

Study Abroad: Russian Language in Omsk (Dostoevsky Omsk State Uni.)

Dostoevsky OmSU offers 2 summer programs with fixed start dates in July and August for international students who are interested in learning Russian language and would like to delve into Russian traditional culture.
Russian Language Summer School in July is a 3-week intensive program that aims to provide students with the opportunity to practice all main skills in Russian, reinforce and enrich their knowledge of Russian.
Course Fees: 45 000 RUB (approx. 635 €/775 USD)
Upon the completion of the program, students will get the Russian Language School Certificate (7 ETCS).

Russian Language Summer School in August is a 2-week program that covers a balance of language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), grammar at an appropriate level from beginner to advanced.

Dates: July 31- Aug 19

Russian Language classes are taught by experienced language teaching professionals (teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language) and follow a communicative approach to language teaching. In addition to in-class Russian language instruction, students will attend lectures of cultural and academic interest.
The social and cultural programs of Summer Schools are designed to help participants gain a valuable overview of Russian culture based on local heritage. The University wants to show the wide diversity of Russian culture, for which they have built a great program for participants to keep them learning, exploring Omsk and experiencing new things.

Language Training: 2018 STARTALK “Proficiency-based Pedagogy for Russian (Middlebury College)

Middlebury College School of Russian is pleased to announce the 2018 STARTALK Summer Institute “Proficiency-based Pedagogy for Russian” intended for novice teachers of Russian and graduate students with no or limited teaching experiences.

The Institute provides participants with unique opportunities to gain a solid foundation in second language acquisition theory and language proficiency framework, and to transfer this knowledge into classroom practice. Participants will create teaching materials for different levels of instruction, implementing STARTALK-endorsed best teaching practices, and engage in practice-teaching in a safe environment with guidance from experienced language practitioners.

Program Dates:

Online Session: June 25 – 29, 2018 (required)
Online Russian Language Session: July 9 – 13, 2018 (optional)
Residential Session on Middlebury Campus: July 17 – 29, 2018 (required)
The Institute includes a week of online classes and a residential session on campus, both required.

During the on-line session participants will engage in learning and discussing theoretical approaches to language acquisition and principles of proficiency-based pedagogy, so that the on-campus session can be dedicated to applying this theoretical knowledge to classroom teaching and material development. During the on-campus session, participants will brainstorm, design, and implement curricular units, lessons and activities.

New for 2018, we will also offer an optional Online Russian Language Session, scheduled for the week preceding the residential session and designed to prepare non-native and heritage speakers for the immersion environment at the Davis School of Russian.

Institute’s participants will experience the unique immersive environment of the Middlebury Russian School. By living in the language, participants themselves will see how a learning community of people who speak Russian with varying levels of fluency can be built and sustained.

Tuition, lodging expenses, meals, textbooks, and classroom materials are covered by the STARTALK grant, and each participant is eligible to receive a travel reimbursement for up to $300. Participants will receive one course unit of graduate credit.

Language Training: Ukrainian Summer Institute 2018 (Harvard U.)

The Harvard Ukrainian Summer Institute (HUSI) is now accepting applications for its 2018 program. 
 
Program Dates: June 23-August 11, 2018 
 
HUSI offers seven weeks of intensive accredited university instruction in Ukrainian studies. Students earn academic credit while studying at an Ivy League university and exploring the dynamic city that surrounds it. The program is designed for graduate students and undergraduates who are concentrating in Ukrainian studies or who wish to broaden their educational experience. Limited financial assistance is available.
