 Atlas Corps Virtual Leadership Institute: Leadership in Times of Change

Foresee, initiate, and navigate change! Atlas Corps is recruiting U.S. and Russian professionals (40 years or younger) to apply for the Atlas Corps Virtual Leadership Institute to enhance professional skills, build international networks, and prepare for leadership in times of change. 

The Atlas Corps Virtual Leadership Institute is a 5-month online learning experience inspired by the established Atlas Corps model where participants from Russia and the U.S. build community across borders and promote positive social impact. In addition to building connections with peers in Russia and the U.S., Scholars will join the Atlas Corps network of 1,400 leaders from 115 countries. 

The priority deadline is July 15 to be considered for opportunities in 2022. Early applications are encouraged as applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Visit usa.atlascorps.org for more information and to apply.

Online Ukrainian Folklore Course

Dates: June 9- July 2, 2022

The Partnership for Russian, East European and Eurasian Folklore, a nonprofit dedicated to cultural exchange and the study of folklore, is honored to present an online course in Ukrainian folklore.

This course is a collaboration between two distinguished folklorists, Dr. Liudmila Ivaniikova (Kiev) and Dr. Yelena Minyonok (Moscow).  Dr. Ivaniikova will lecture in Ukrainian. Dr. Minyonok will deliver an introductory lecture in English and provide English translation for subsequent lectures.

Summer Camp Internship (Siberia)

Deadline: Open Until Filled

“Cosmopolitan”, Novosibirsk, Russia, is still accepting applications to their summer camp internship program that is located in the Altai Mountain region.

The summer internship is offered for two weeks or four weeks from June 27th until July 25th at the children’s camp in the picturesque Altai Mountain region. It is absolutely safe to travel to Siberia. Our life here is normal. Visas are being processed and issued in the usual manner. Some of our prospective participants from the US have recently got their visas without any problem. We maintain the same friendly feelings towards the American people. Everyone, who comes, will receive a very warm welcome. If someone is interested in a more extended stay we can add a Russian course in the city of Novosibirsk on completion of the camp. Further details of such extended internship can be discussed.

Study Abroad: Partnership for Russian, East European and Eurasian Folklore, Kazakhstan

Program Dates: August 10-23 2022 

Frustrated that you can’t travel to Russia this summer?  Consider Kazakhstan, home to millions of native Russian speakers in both urban and rural settings.

PREEEF is a non-profit that supports folklore expeditions to Eastern Europe and Eurasia.  We do this by  connecting volunteers with local scholars who welcome the extra hands in the field.

This summer PREEEF is collaborating with Dr. Alevtina Tsvetkova (Pavlodar State University) on an expedition to the Katon-Karagai District of East Kazakhstan.   The team will document songs, stories, rituals, oral histories, a honey festival and local lore. Most informants trace their descent from Old Believers who settled here 3 centuries ago.

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship Program

The Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Program provides opportunities for faculty to engage in full-time research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to deepen research knowledge and increase the study of modern foreign languages, cultural engagement, and area studies not generally included in U.S. curricula. 

Program features

Faculty may request funding to support overseas research for a period of no less than three months and no more than 12 months. Funds support the travel expenses to and from the residence of the fellow and the country or countries of research, maintenance allowances based on the salary paid by the fellow’s U.S. home institution, and an allowance for research-related expenses overseas. Projects may focus on one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the United States and its territories).

New Program Will Support Early Career Scholars Pursuing
Innovative Approaches to Dissertation Research in the
Humanities and Interpretive Social Sciences

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Innovation Fellowships, a new program designed to support emerging scholars as they advance bold and innovative research in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. The program is made possible by a grant from the Mellon Foundation.

The Dissertation Innovation Fellowship program will make awards to doctoral students who show promise of leading their fields in important new directions. The fellowships are designed to intervene at the formative stage of dissertation development, before writing is advanced, and provide time and support for emerging scholars’ innovative approaches to dissertation research – practical, trans- or interdisciplinary, collaborative, critical, or methodological. The program seeks to expand the range of research methodologies, formats, and areas of inquiry traditionally considered suitable for the dissertation, with a particular focus on supporting scholars who can build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable academy.

Prof. Dev: Professional Workshop in Public Scholarship

Deadline: May 30, 2022

ASU’s Melikian Center, in collaboration with ASU’s Narrative Storytelling Initiative, invites up to 10 participants to ASU’s Tempe campus for a three-day, in-person workshop on issues in public scholarship. Applications are invited from early-career scholars and practitioners (including advanced PhD and master’s students and recent graduates) with an interest in taking knowledge public. The workshop will explore different genres of writing, speaking, and publishing to effectively translate in-depth regional knowledge of Russia, Eurasia and East Europe to engage public and policy audiences.

The workshop will be led by ASU faculty affiliated with the Melikian Center including Keith Brown, Melikian Center Director; Candace Rondeaux, New America Fellow and Professor of Practice at the School of Politics and Global Studies; and Steven Beschloss, the director of the Narrative Storytelling Initiative and Professor of Practice at ASU’s Cronkite School of Journalism.

Funding: Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad

Deadline: July 13, 2022

The U.S. Department of Education, International and Foreign Language Education, is relaunching the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) fellowship program! The FRA Program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund faculty (U.S. citizens and permanent residents) who conduct research overseas, in modern foreign languages and area studies. Faculty can receive funding for 3 to 12 consecutive months. The fellowship supports topics focused primarily on non-Western European languages and area studies. 

New for FY 2022, the FRA program features a competitive priority to grant two additional points to applicants applying from Community Colleges, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Minority Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges. Clements Center Undergraduate Fellowship Program

The solutions to tomorrow’s top international security challenges reside in the minds of today’s students. The Clements Center’s Undergraduate Fellowship Program provides UT’s aspiring policymakers and scholars with opportunities for learning, professional development, and research in the fields of defense and foreign policy. Fellows will receive mentorship from the Center’s affiliated scholars and experts, meet with distinguished guests and visiting practitioners, convene in weekly discussion groups on relevant topics and current events, and exchange ideas on their course projects. Applications are due April 12th by 11pm Central Time. To apply submit a one-page resume, cover letter, and contact details for two UT references on our website.

The Association for Women in Slavic Studies is now inviting nominations for the 2022 Heldt Prizes. We have three prizes this year:

Best book by a woman-identifying scholar in any area of Slavic/East European/Eurasian studies

Best book in Slavic/Eastern European/Eurasian women’s and gender studies

Best article in Slavic/Eastern European/Eurasian women’s and gender studies
