Three Postdoctoral Researcher Positions

The “Modernizing Empires: Enlightenment, Nationalist Vanguards and Non-Western Literary Modernities” (NONWESTLIT) Project, funded by the European Research Council, will hire three postdoctoral researchers in the following areas:

–       19th century Russian literature and culture

–       19th century Ottoman literature and culture

–       19th century Japanese literature and culture

The project is a comparative study of cultural reforms, linguistic renewal and literary renaissance movements in three imperial traditions, Russia, Turkey and Japan. The project is hosted by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LILEC) at the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna).

2021 AWSS Patricia Herlihy Graduate Research Prize

The Association for Women in Slavic Studies (AWSS) Patricia Herlihy Graduate Research Prize is awarded annually to fund promising graduate-level research in any field of Slavic/East European/Central Asian studies by a woman or on a topic in Women’s or Gender Studies related to Slavic Studies/East Europe/Central Asia by a scholar of any gender.

Position Summary

Freedom House is seeking three (3) motivated candidates to inaugurate the nine-month Freedom in the World Junior Fellowship program. Freedom in the World is Freedom House’s flagship analysis on political rights and civil liberties in 210 countries and territories. Produced since 1973, it is the most widely read and cited report of its kind, used on a regular basis by policymakers, journalists, academics, activists, and others. The most recent edition of Freedom in the World, published in March 2021, was cited in the Washington Post, the AtlanticNBC NewsCNN, the BBC, and in a March 3 speech about US foreign policy by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, among many other places.

Intensive summer course: 10 June- 29 July 2021

This online course is for anyone who is interested in Ukrainian literature. The course will discuss the romantics and the avant-garde, the modernists and the dissidents, the post-modernists and the feminists as well as the rich literary scene of contemporary Ukraine. Each seminar will be delivered by an expert in the field of Ukrainian literature. All texts will be read in the English translation and made available to students enrolled on the course. No prior knowledge of the Ukrainian language or literature is required to enrol on this course. Study Abroad: Hungarian Studies Balassi Scholarship

Call for scholarship application of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for the credit-based Hungarian Language and Hungarian Studies Programme in the academic year of 2021/2022.

The scholarship is intended for individuals of non-Hungarian citizenship (and of non-Hungarian decency) to increase their Hungarian language competence and “Hungarology” knowledge acquired at universities outside Hungary.

The objective of the Hungarian Language and Hungarian Studies scholarship is to improve, broaden and strengthen the Hungarian language skills and “Hungarology” knowledge of graduate or undergraduate students of Hungarian studies. The two-semester course takes place in the MFA in Budapest with the cooperation of the University of Pécs and with KKM Magyar Diplomáciai Akadémia Kft. (KKM MDA Kft., a background institution of the MFA)

AATSEEL 2022: Call for Streams and Call for Papers

The AATSEEL national meeting is a forum for scholarly exchange of ideas in all areas of Slavic and East/Central European languages, literatures, linguistics, cultures, and pedagogy. The Program Committee invites scholars in these and related areas to form panels around specific topics, organize roundtable discussions, propose forums on instructional materials, and/or submit proposals for individual presentations for the 2022 conference. The conference regularly includes panels in linguistics, pedagogy, second language acquisition, literatures, and cultures relevant to the organization’s regions of focus. The next annual AATSEEL conference will be held in person at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, February 17-20, 2022, and the Call for Papers and Call for Streams are currently open and accepting submissions.
