Hungarian Cultural Studies—the peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published each summer by the American Hungarian Educators Association—is inviting submissions for our 2024 issue.

Our mission is to publish scholarly, cutting-edge content dedicated to Hungarian studies across the humanities and social science disciplines—including original articles, book reviews, and review articles.

We particularly welcome thematic clusters comprising three or more articles on a unifying theme.

Study Abroad: Winter Break in Riga (SRAS)

Enjoy a winter break experience in Riga, Latvia while developing your Russian language skills. Our focus will be on conversation both in and out of the classroom. In addition to intensive Russian language lessons, you will experience both Russian and Latvian culture during this festive time of year.

  • Boost your Russian with 20 hours/week in a small group (40 academic hours total)
  • Learn about and observe Orthodox Christmas traditions

2024 Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe

We would like to bring to your attention the following Call for applications for the 2024 Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe, organised by the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia and the American Council of Learned Societies. The American University in Bulgaria will host a two-week residency in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, 13-29 June 2024.

Guest Editors Wanted (Russian Language Journal)

Deadline: September 29, 2023

Russian Language Journal is entertaining proposals for the special issue of Volume vol 74/issue 2 (printed issue), to be published in December 2024. Thematic issues of Russian Language Journal focus on areas of current interest and are an excellent venue to bring together in one issue numerous approaches to a methodology or an issue in Slavic linguistics and language teaching. We are particularly interested in publishing a special issue on Slavic linguistics, literature-language intersections, corpus linguistics, digital studies, sociolinguistics, and language acquisition, decolonization in Slavic Studies, but other proposals will also be considered.

Writing Across Boundaries Program

Deadline: October 6, 2023

To integrate new research and perspectives from underrepresented regions and groups in English-language publishing outlets in Russian, Eurasian and East European Studies, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian and East European Studies at Arizona State University, and University of Amsterdam are inviting applications for their Writing Across Boundaries Program. Doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and other early career scholars from all disciplines in the arts and humanities and the social sciences are encouraged to apply.

If selected, each reviewer/referee will be formally recognized in the Acknowledgments section of the volume. BASEES Postgraduate Workshop: Using Archives and Libraries to Research Histories of Eastern Europe and Eurasia
