Russian Flagship at Portland State University offering Third Year Russian this Summer
Portland State University (Portland, OR) will be offering Third Year Russian in person during summer 2022. This is a basic intermediate level Russian course. In oral proficiency it works from Intermediate Low to Intermediate Mid level and assumes students have completed a full elementary program (such as Между нами). Themes and language forms under focus include biography, description of people and character, static description of interior spaces and cities, retelling plot with a focus on relations between characters, and narrating actions. After the course at PSU, students continue to fourth year Russian where we use the textbook “Russian: From Intermediate to Advanced”.

The Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Program provides opportunities for faculty to engage in full-time research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies. The program is designed to deepen research knowledge and increase the study of modern foreign languages, cultural engagement, and area studies not generally included in U.S. curricula.
Program features
Faculty may request funding to support overseas research for a period of no less than three months and no more than 12 months. Funds support the travel expenses to and from the residence of the fellow and the country or countries of research, maintenance allowances based on the salary paid by the fellow’s U.S. home institution, and an allowance for research-related expenses overseas. Projects may focus on one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, South Asia, the Near East, Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere (excluding the United States and its territories).

There is no prescribed topic, format, or length for papers submitted. It is presumed that most papers will have been prepared to satisfy a course or degree requirement of the author’s academic program. Co-authored and “team project” papers will be accepted.
About: The Bobby R. Inman award recognizes more than six decades of distinguished public service by Bobby R. Inman, Admiral, U.S. Navy (Ret.). Admiral Inman served in multiple leadership positions in the U.S. military, intelligence community, private industry, and at The University of Texas. His previous intelligence posts include Director of Naval Intelligence, Vice-Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Director of the National Security Agency, and Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. He continues to serve as an advisor and mentor to UT students and faculty members, and current government officials.

The University of Bologna with the European Council of Research is hiring a Research Assistant in Russian Literary and Cultural Studies. The Research Assistant will be responsible for finding, assessing and uploading digital periodicals to a database. Major tasks include data entry and materials collection. See below for a detailed description.
Applicants should be enrolled as MA or PhD students and have native or near-native command of Russian. (The ability to read Russian texts with ease is crucial.) Preferred qualifications include communicative fluency in English, familiarity with nineteenth-century orthography; experience in archival research; current research interests in nineteenth-century Russian criticism and periodicals.
The salary is 4,500 euros net for a six-month term. The expected workload is approximately 32 hours per month, which may vary according to the Assistant’s study/work schedule as long as bi-monthly milestones are met. See below for milestone details.

The Russian program in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Missouri is looking for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) of Russian, for a one-year appointment starting August 2022.
Teaching responsibilities include Elementary Russian and at least one semester of third-year Russian language; other courses may include Russian culture or film, depending on VAP strengths and departmental need.
Ph.D. or ABD in Russian is required at the time of appointment. Native or near-native fluency in Russian and English is required. Candidates will be evaluated on their experience and success teaching both in person and online. Review of applications will begin on April 29, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
