Conference: Dostoevsky at 200 Roundtable

Event Date: September 22, 2021

Dostoevsky at 200 is a forthcoming roundtable discussion which will kick off an international series of online events based in North America celebrating the bicentenary of Dostoevsky’s birth, co-hosted and co-sponsored by the North American Dostoevsky Society as well as several different universities in Canada, the US, and the UK, including our own department.

The first event will be the roundtable discussion, Dostoevsky at 200: The Novel in Modernity, to be held on Wed, Sept 22, 2021. It is free, open to the public with registration required.

We invite scholars to share research and participate in discussions related to Ukrainian studies. We welcome submissions from fields that include but are not limited to: history, literature, memory studies, translation, linguistics, music, film, religious studies, political science, anthropology, sociology, gender studies, mass media. In addition to this broad range of topics, to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of Ukraine’s independence we welcome talks and presentations that touch upon the gains and challenges that Ukraine has witnessed since 1991: poetry and literature of independent Ukraine, memory politics, the Orange Revolution, the Revolution of Dignity, the Chornobyl consequences, Russian occupation of Crimea and Donbas, Ukrainian cinema, Ukrainian literature abroad, teaching Ukrainian literature in Ukraine and abroad, etc.

The Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School seeks applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant or associate professor interested in research and teaching in the field of modern Russian history, with a specialization in security issues. Relevant expertise might include Russian military history/strategy, the Cold War, Russian technology issues, arms control, or military issues in Russia’s relations with NATO, Eastern/Central Europe, the Caucasus, or Central Asia. Candidates should demonstrate a strong potential for teaching excellence and scholarly research. The successful candidate must also be prepared to teach introductory Masters-level courses on modern Russian history, Russian/Eurasian military strategy, and possibly modern European history, as well as courses in the candidate’s specific research specialty.

American Councils for International Education is currently accepting applications for the next cycle of U.S. Department of State Title VIII Research Fellowships in Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe. Fellowships are offered in two categories:

Title VIII Research Scholar Program:

Provides full support for research in policy-relevant fields in Russia, Eurasia, and Eastern Europe. Fellowships include round-trip international travel; housing and living stipends; visa support; overseas health, accident, and evacuation insurance; archive access; and logistical support. Open to U.S. graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and faculty.

This is a job announcement for the STARTALK Russian immersion program for summer 2022. Oklahoma City University is hiring Russian language teachers, an art or music teacher, and two camp counselors for its STARTALK Russian immersion program. The program has two parts: a residential three-week portion during July 10-31 at Oklahoma City University campus + a virtual follow-up program on Zoom from August 2022 through May 2023. It is designed to immerse high school students, grades 9-12, with little or no previous knowledge of Russian, into Russian language and culture. The theme of the program is art, “Connecting People and Cultures: Russian Language through the Arts and Digital Media.” The job applications and application form for high school students are below.
