Online Summer Russian Language Program (University of Arizona, GRINT Centre Moscow)

The University of Arizona, in partnership with the GRINT Centre in Moscow, is accepting applications for the online study of Russian language at all levels for the Summer 2020 session. The program runs from June 8 – July 31, 2020, and will consist of a mix of synchronous and asynchronous lessons, homework, etc., as well as a robust cultural component of online theatre performances, virtual excursions, and more. Prof. Dev. : Russian Military Executive Education Course

The Russia and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (https://www.csis.org/) in Washington D.C. has an executive education program CSIS designed for scholars with a background in Russian studies to develop new skills and expertise in analyzing Russian military affairs.

This executive education program is taking place on July 20 – 24, 2020 and is free to participants accepted into the program. CSIS is accepting applications through June 1, 2020 but the earlier applications come in, the better. Second and Third Year Russian Online Courses (Yale University)

Yale University Summer session is accepting applications now for Second and Third-Year Russian online. The Second-year Russian (Russ 130/140) is a sequel to Live from Russia Stage One, entitled Welcome Back! It is also built around a contextualized video story of Kevin, Misha, Tanya, Olya et al. and uses a four-skill approach –reading, writing, listening, and speaking with the emphasis on grammatical structure and communication practice. Prerequisite: First-Year Russian or equivalent proficiency

The Third- Year Russian (Russ 150/151)  involves a comprehensive review of the essential aspects of Russian grammar, extensive vocabulary building for social sciences and history, as well as practical vocabulary necessary for everyday conversations and activities in contemporary Russia. Readings in Russian literature and Russian media supplement the basic course materials. Prerequisite: Second-Year Russian or equivalent proficiency

Summer Intensive Intermediate Russian Language Course (Harvard University)

Harvard University is offering an intensive Intermediate Russian course this summer. The course will be taught interactively via zoom, from June 22 to August 8, 2020 and satisfies the FLAS contact hours requirement. The summer school will provide Harvard credit and easy continuation for students from other universities. Mary Zirin Prize for Independent Scholars of Slavic Studies

The Association for Women in Slavic Studies (AWSS) is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the Mary Zirin Prize in recognition of an independent scholar in the field of Slavic Studies. The award of $500 is named for Mary Zirin, the founder of Women East-West.

Working as an independent scholar, Zirin produced and encouraged fundamental works in Slavic/East European Women’s Studies and has been instrumental in the development of the AWSS. The Prize aims to recognize the achievements of independent scholars and to encourage their continued scholarship and service in the fields of Slavic or Central and Eastern European Women’s Studies.

Middlebury Summer Language Programs

The Kathryn W. Davis School of Russian at Middlebury College is pleased to offer online 8-week and graduate programs this summer. The 8-week session will include the four traditional years of study (levels 1, 3, 5, and 7). The graduate program will offer courses in advanced language, literature, history, philosophy…and classic Soviet cartoons and songs!
